Ole Miss track and field produced four individual titles last weekend<\/a><\/strong> at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Rebel quartet of Akilah Lewis,\u00a0McKenzie Long,\u00a0Gabrielle Matthews and Jahniya Bowers posted the ninth-best 4\u00d7100-meter relay time time (42.34) in school history to bring home the program\u2019s first-ever title in the event.<\/p>\n

Long \u2014 who won additional titles in the 100-meter and 200-meter<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 built Ole Miss\u2019 lead on her second leg. But it was Matthews on the third who blew the door open. Bowers coasted to the finish.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been working really hard all year for this,\u201d Lewis said. \u201cWe knew the job wouldn\u2019t be complete until we won. It was really satisfying to go out there and execute our race to bring home the title.\u201d<\/p>\n

The last first-time winner int he women\u2019s 4\u00d71 was South Carolina in 2002. Ole Miss is the first school not named LSU, Texas or USC to win since 2017 (Kentucky).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like we have something to prove at this meet,\u201d Lewis said. \u201cI feel like, in a sense, we\u2019ve been the underdogs all season because other schools have done this before. It\u2019s our first time, so it was a great experience to go in there and execute.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know we could have run faster because we\u2019ve had better exchanges in the past, but once we got the stick around I knew we would win,\u201d Lewis concluded. \u201cWe have the best team, we have the best chemistry, so I knew winning today was the only option.\u201d<\/p>\n
