Former Ole Miss<\/a> <\/strong>golfer Jackson Suber<\/strong> is set to join the field for the U.S. Open this weekend after Spaniard John Rahm<\/strong> withdrew for health reasons<\/strong><\/a>, the PGA Tour confirmed on Tuesday<\/a>. It will be just the third PGA Tour event for Suber in his pro career.<\/p>\n

Suber spent four seasons with the Rebels, from 2018 to 2022 prior to turning pro. He emerged as one of the best collegiate golfers in the nation during his time in Oxford.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Open is set for this weekend with play beginning on Thursday, June 13, at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Suber is surely hoping to make the cut and play into the weekend at what will be the biggest stage of his career by far.<\/p>\n

Rahm is out due to a foot problem<\/h2>\n

Rahm is dealing with an infected sore on his left foot and withdrew from last week\u2019s\u00a0LIV Golf<\/strong>\u00a0event as a result,\u00a0according to ESPN\u2019s Marty Smith<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter consulting with numerous doctors and my team, I have decided it is best for my long term health, to withdraw from this weeks US Open Championship,\u201d Rahm said on X. \u201cTo say I\u2019m disappointed is a massive understatement! I wish all my peers the best of luck and want to thank all of the USGA staff, volunteers and community of Pinehurst for hosting and putting on what I\u2019m sure will be an amazing championship! Hopefully I\u2019ll be back in action sooner than later!\u201d<\/p>\n

Rahm has an infected sore between his little toe and the next toe on his left foot, Smith reported Tuesday. He is undergoing treatment, but has been working through pain and decided to back out of this week\u2019s tournament as a result.<\/p>\n

Rahm \u2013 who won the U.S. Open in 2022 \u2013 pulled out of LIV\u2019s event in Houston last week with the infection. At the time, he said his injury was \u201ca concern\u201d and he could\u2019ve kept playing. However, he added it was impacting his swing and he decided to back out.<\/p>\n

In the process, he also threw his status for this week at Pinehurst into question.<\/p>\n

\u201cCould I have dragged myself out there and posted some kind of a score? Yeah.\u201d Rahm said,\u00a0via ESPN\u2019s Paolo Uggetti<\/a>. \u201cBut it was getting to a point where I wasn\u2019t making the swings I wanted to make, and I could have hurt other parts of my swing just because of the pain. As to right now [playing] this week, I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n
