With so much discussion lately on the running back position for the South Carolina Gamecocks, we saw fit to give GamecockCentral.com subscribers an update on what is happening at the spot.<\/p>\n

South Carolina has long been one of his top schools, but Tennessee seemed to seize more of the momentum a while back and now holds a commanding lead \u2013 one I agree with \u2013 in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine<\/a>.<\/p>\n At one point, USC was booked for an official visit next month. With UT\u2019s current positioning and Lewis\u2019 timeline (end of May announcement), that isn\u2019t set to happen.<\/p>\n For additional context, here is what our colleagues at VolQuest.com reported on Lewis:<\/p>\n \u00a0\u201cThe truth is, Tennessee has had the momentum there for a couple of months now and he always planned on making a decision in late May. This one is trending hard toward Rocky Top,\u201d said Brent Hubbs in the latest War Room.<\/p>\n \u2014 There\u2019s another back on the Gamecocks\u2019 board being recruited by the Vols, too. Arkansas product Braylen Russell<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 a former Razorbacks commitment \u2013 \u00a0has had an official set for a while to Columbia for the weekend of June 2. <\/p>\n There is, of course, some familiarity here with former UA assistant Dowell Loggains. Baylor is set for one the following weekend. Tennessee also believes it is getting an official later in the month.<\/p>\n Arkansas is still in the game here, although no firm word on an official visit date for them.<\/p>\n Russell has been thought of as a longer shot for USC, but if he follows through with the visit, we\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n [Sign up for my weekly newsletter \u2013 Gamecocks Connection<\/a><\/strong>]<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Florida\u2019s Anthony Carrie<\/a><\/strong> remains on the board, and as we have stated, USC wants and needs to sign a pair of running backs in this class.<\/p>\n At this time, we still believe it\u2019s not as likely that Carrie ends up as part of the 2024 crop for the Gamecocks.<\/p>\n That, depending on how things break in the \u201924 cycle, is subject to change. <\/p>\n \u2014 South Carolina also recently dispensed another new offer at this position for the 2024 class.<\/p>\n Jesup (Georgia) Wayne County\u2019s Matthew Fuller<\/a><\/strong> has seen his stock rise during the spring evaluation period, picking up several new offers in the month of May.<\/p>\n The Gamecocks sent out his first SEC tender recently. <\/p>\n The 6-foot, 210-pounder\u2019s head football coach in high school is Jaybo Shaw, Connor\u2019s brother.<\/p>\n It\u2019s believed to be safe to say that Fuller will make a trip to Columbia at some point.<\/p>\n \u2014 Let\u2019s close out with more on a prospect that has been a top target at running back for some time: Meridian (Mississippi) product Daniel Hill<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Both public (he\u2019s named USC his leader in the past) and private indications seem to have had USC in a good spot here. There\u2019s no indication that\u2019s changed.<\/p>\n Still, Hill continues to take visits to other programs and entertain other suitors.
