This past Monday morning, the Miami Hurricanes became the latest program to offer Cotton Valley (La.) Evangel Christian Academy quarterback Peyton\u00a0Houston<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0who is becoming a name to know in the 2027 class after a strong freshman campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was amazing to get that offer,\u201d\u00a0Houston told CaneSport.\u00a0\u201cI had my guys right there next to me, so as soon as they heard it, they all jumped on me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Offering the 6-foot, 185-pound gunslinger was Hurricanes offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson<\/a>, who made his way back to his home state of Louisiana to see Houston, who holds more than\u00a010\u00a0scholarship offers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was pretty cool getting\u00a0the offer from him,\u201d\u00a0Houston explained.\u00a0\u201cOur relationship is pretty good, and knowing\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0also from Louisiana\u00a0just\u00a0makes it that much better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dawson and Houston are no strangers to each other, as last summer\u00a0Houston\u00a0and his family made their way down to Coral Gables for\u00a0Miami\u2019s\u00a0Legends Camp. While at the camp, Houston showcased his talent in front of Dawson and a handful of Miami staff members, which led to his eventual offer months later.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was amazing seeing all the legends come back and\u00a0be so invested\u00a0in the younger kids,\u201d\u00a0Houston said.\u00a0\u201cIt was just an amazing opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with Miami, Houston holds offers from the likes of\u00a0Arkansas<\/a>,\u00a0Colorado<\/a>,\u00a0Mississippi State<\/a>,\u00a0Ole Miss<\/a>,\u00a0Texas Tech,<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Texas A&M<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0been pretty good so far,\u201d\u00a0Houston said about his recruiting process.\u00a0\u201cI just know\u00a0that\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0got to keep working every day, give God all the glory, and keep my head down.\u201d<\/p>\n

This spring the rising freshman visited Texas A&M, Texas, LSU, USC and Oklahoma.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I look at a school, I really focus on the energy in practice and how the team carries itself,\u201d\u00a0Houston said.\u00a0\u201cAlso\u00a0how the quarterbacks\u00a0are coached.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the coming months, Houston\u00a0is hoping\u00a0to make his way back down to Miami to reconnect with Dawson and watch a Hurricanes fall practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0want to get down to a practice to see how the quarterbacks are coached and really see how coach Dawson teaches,\u201d\u00a0Houston explained.<\/p>\n

CaneSport\u2019s\u00a0take\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Houston has been on\u00a0Dawson\u2019s\u00a0radar since he was an eighth grader, so seeing Miami pull the trigger and offer him so early is no surprise. While it may still be\u00a0extremely\u00a0early, Houston\u00a0is\u00a0viewed\u00a0as\u00a0one of the top quarterback recruits in the 2027 cycle, and the Hurricanes are in the mix early.\u00a0<\/p>\n
