The team then opted for Keon Coleman in the second round of the NFL Draft.

Josh Allen believes Coleman, the former Florida State star, was the absolutely perfect pick for the Bills. Granted, quarterback and receiver haven’t had much time to get on-field acquainted. Buffalo just started phase three of OTAs. In this phase, the vets along with the rookies are together on the field for the first time.

You can’t tell how a rookie will react in the regular season based on a handful of seven-on-seven drills. But you get can an idea.

“I think his play style (is) what we needed in our offense,” Allen told NFL Network. “Talking with our offensive coordinator (Joe Brady), our quarterbacks coach (Ronald Curry), (general manager) Brandon Beane and, obviously, coach (Sean) McDermott, a guy that’s a big-bodied guy and can go win one a back-shoulder fade and not afraid to be a physical wide receiver.”

Coleman is 6-foot-4, 215 pounds. He was part of an historic draft class of receivers. The Bills selected him with the 33rd pick of last month’s draft. That made him the first pick of the second round. There were seven receivers selected in the first. The Bills twice traded back in the first round before making a pick in the second. Because of the depth of the recruiting draft class, the team still was able to grab a top prospect.

Give me some Keon Coleman this year.

pic.twitter.com/glPL5KoGco

— Adam Rank (@adamrank) May 21, 2024

Allen says he likes this group of Bills receivers

Allen gushed about Coleman and the rest of the Bills receivers.

“I think you pair him with some of the guys we have in our room right now, I think Mack Hollins has been such a great addition so far to that room with his mentality, his mindset is infectious to others. Curtis Samuel, he’s been showing up every single day ready to work. … You start pairing those guys up with Dawson (Knox) and Coleman in this mix now, we’re gonna have a pretty solid group that works together.”

You’ll notice Coleman on the field. NFL Research analyzed his career stats to see how he stacks up, historically, with other quarterbacks when they were 28. Answer is very well.

He has scored 220 career NFL touchdowns. Broken down, it’s 167 via the pass and 53 on rushes. NFL Research found that no other NFL quarterback scored so many times before his 28th birthday. Patrick Mahomes ranks second in the list with 206. Dan Marino had scored 200 by then. And Cam Newton ranked fourth with 184. Peyton Manning rounded out the top five with 176.

And maybe with Coleman on the field, Allen will continue to score an historic number of TDs.

The post Josh Allen says Keon Coleman is perfect fit for Buffalo Bills offense appeared first on On3.

[1

post-53320","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
