Transfer linebacker Larry Nixon III<\/a><\/strong> has committed to Auburn football<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nixon, who is transferring from North Texas, announced his decision Tuesday on Twitter. Nixon chose Auburn over Miami and West Virginia, among others.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love the defense,\u201d Nixon told Auburn Live. \u201cWhat they are doing with the defense, I could see myself doing everything they\u2019d have me doing. And I love the area. It\u2019s a really nice area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nixon\u2019s commitment comes just a few days after leaving an official visit to Auburn. He visited last Thursday and Friday (May 11-12) and knew then that the Tigers would be tough to beat.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a great visit,\u201d he said. \u201cThe atmosphere is great. The stadium is great. I love the stadium and the coaches. Hugh (Freeze) did a great job getting everybody up here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nixon, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 236 pounds, is a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility.<\/p>\n

Auburn LB coach played major role in Nixon\u2019s recruitment<\/h2>\n

Nixon during his visit met in-depth with linebackers coach Josh Aldridge<\/a><\/strong>. The two talked about what Nixon\u2019s role would be for the Tigers.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a great guy,\u201d Nixon said. \u201cHe knows what he\u2019s talking about and is a good linebackers coach from the top down. They want to use me at the will position with my speed and cover ability. I can do 1-on-1 and blitz. That\u2019s what they are looking for out of me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nixon liked everything he saw and heard from Aldridge.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything I saw on film is perfect for me,\u201d he said. \u201cI can do everything that they want me to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Transfer LB brings needed experience to Auburn LB group<\/h2>\n

Nixon played four seasons at North Texas. He totaled 246 tackles in his career. He also racked up 5.5 sacks. In 2022, he was a first-team All-CUSA selection after totaling 105 tackles, including 51 solos, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing at North Texas for five years, I feel like I gave it everything I could,\u201d he said. \u201cFor my goal, it\u2019s to get to the (NFL). So, this was a big thing for me \u2026 to go out and prove I can do it at the highest level, which is the SEC. That\u2019s the one thing I\u2019m looking for.\u201d<\/p>\n

And the thing that he now has.<\/p>\n

He also took official visits to Miami and West Virginia before committing to Auburn. His former teammate at North Texas, wide receiver Jyaire Shorter<\/a><\/strong>, also is a top transfer target for the Tigers.<\/p>\n

Nixon is the fifth transfer addition for Auburn this spring. He joins quarterback Payton Thorne<\/a><\/strong> (Michigan State), edge rusher Jalen McLeod<\/a><\/strong> (Appalachian State), wide receiver Caleb Burton<\/a><\/strong> (Ohio State) and offensive lineman Jaden Muskrat<\/a><\/strong> (Tulsa) as the new additions to the Tigers\u2019 roster.<\/p>\n
