Long-tenured football coach Mike Riley<\/a><\/strong> is reportedly in line to replace Pat Chun<\/strong> as a member of the College Football Playoff selection committee, according to<\/a> ESPN\u2019s Heather Dinich<\/strong>. Chun is stepping down after leaving his job as the Washington State<\/a><\/strong> athletic director to take on the same role at Washington<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Chun was holding a seat originally assigned to represent the Pac-12, which has since dissolved. With Chun taking a job with a soon-to-be Big Ten school, he stepped down from his role on the CFP selection committee, which is filling the seat as an at-large.<\/p>\n

Riley, who last coached in the USFL, has previously coached Nebraska<\/a><\/strong> and Oregon State<\/a><\/strong>. He\u2019s also coached in the NFL and in various other professional leagues.<\/p>\n

The selection committee will have a new chair this upcoming season<\/h2>\n

Michigan<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0athletic director\u00a0Warde Manuel<\/strong>\u00a0will serve as the chair of the College Football Playoff selection committee in 2024, the CFP\u00a0announced on Thursday<\/a>. The CFP also announced a number of new members on the selection committee going forward.<\/p>\n

Manuel is stepping in for outgoing selection committee chair,\u00a0NC State<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0athletic director\u00a0Boo Corrigan<\/strong>. Corrigan served as the selection committee chair for the past two seasons, but has finished his three-year term on the committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are delighted that Warde will serve as chair,\u201d outgoing CFP executive director Bill Hancock said in a release announcing the move. \u201cHe has been a valuable member of the committee last two years and that experience will serve him well in leading the group.\u00a0As a former student-athlete, he will also be a good spokesperson to let fans know how the committee reached its rankings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Manuel will be chairing the committee \u2014\u00a0and therefore serve as it\u2019s public voice \u2014\u00a0during a time of big change for the CFP, as the event moves from four teams to 12 in the 2024-25 season. Manuel is entering his third and final year on the CFP selection committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy first two years on the committee have been a great experience,\u201d Manuel said in the release. \u201cI have so much respect for the time and effort each committee member puts in each week because of their commitment to the game.\u00a0I\u2019m honored to be asked to serve as committee chair.\u201d<\/p>\n

The other six new members of the CFP selection committee at the time were\u00a0Washington State<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0AD\u00a0Patrick Chun<\/strong>, former\u00a0Arizona State<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0defensive lineman\u00a0Randall McDaniel,<\/strong>\u00a0former\u00a0Toledo<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Missouri<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0coach\u00a0Gary Pinkel<\/strong>,\u00a0Baylor<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0AD\u00a0Mack Rhoades<\/strong>,\u00a0Virginia<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0AD\u00a0Carla Williams<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Arkansas<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0AD\u00a0Hunter Yurachek<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Former\u00a0Nebraska<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0lineman\u00a0Will Shields<\/strong>\u00a0also had his term extended for an additional year.<\/p>\n
