Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy four-star safety Jireh Edwards<\/a><\/strong> is down to 10 schools after recently announcing his top programs, and the Miami Hurricanes are among that final group.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alongside Miami in\u00a0Edwards\u2019\u00a0top 10 is Ohio State, Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee, USC, Oregon, Michigan State, Auburn, and Alabama.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMiami is known for producing a lot of great safeties,\u201d\u00a0Edwards told CaneSport.\u00a0\u201cAnd the culture in Miami is just amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heading into the summer, Edwards,\u00a0who is\u00a0the No. 116-ranked prospect in the 2026 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking<\/a>, is hoping to announce his commitment to one of his top 10 programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0feel like it was a good time because of\u00a0the relationship I have\u00a0with these coaches and schools,\u201d\u00a0Edwards said when asked why he wanted to trim his list of over 20 offers.\u00a0\u201cI feel like it was a need for me to do it.\u00a0I feel like\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0almost ready to commit, so I wanted to focus on my top 10.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder last visited Miami in January and\u00a0is hoping to get back on\u00a0campus later this summer.\u00a0After seeing Coral Gables earlier this year, Edwards raved about his time on campus.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0visited Miami as soon as the dead period was up, and it was amazing,\u201d\u00a0Edwards said.\u00a0\u201cIt was everything a recruit would want to see in a school. The love and the cultures they have are great.\u201d<\/p>\n

On staff, the Maryland native has built a strong relationship with Hurricanes defensive coordinator Lance Guidry<\/a><\/strong> as well as linebackers coach Derek Nicholson<\/a>, who is now leading the push for Edwards in place of former defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, who is now with the Buffalo Bills.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0had a good relationship with coach Addae, but he left,\u201d\u00a0Edwards explained.\u00a0\u201cOne of the coaches\u00a0that I\u00a0have built a good relationship with is coach Dnic.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0my guy as well as a coach\u00a0Guidry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since\u00a0Addae\u2019s\u00a0departure, Edwards\u00a0did say\u00a0his view of Miami changed a bit, but\u00a0both\u00a0Guidry and Nicholson have done a great job of making him feel like a priority target for the program.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt definitely did change how I looked at Miami a little,\u201d\u00a0Edwards said.\u00a0\u201cHe did have a big impact on my recruitment. Coach Nicholson and Guidry have taken more responsibility in recruiting me.\u201d<\/p>\n

When looking into a program, Edwards\u00a0is hoping\u00a0to find somewhere that feels at home and where he can also be developed both on and off the field.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0think\u00a0it\u2019ll\u00a0come down to wherever feels like home,\u201d\u00a0Edwards said.\u00a0\u201cI want to go to a place where I will be comfortable living\u00a0as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

CaneSport\u2019s\u00a0take\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Edwards is one of the\u00a0nation\u2019s\u00a0best defensive backs in the 2026 class and a prospect Miami has been high on for a\u00a0very\u00a0long time. So he\u2019s one to monitor closely.<\/p>\n
