We were able to distribute the football around,” Head coach James Frankin said when speaking about the team’s receivers.

However, the best way to look at the offense is through Penn State redshirt freshman Andrew Rappleyea. The tight end position is critical to any offense, but it was especially interesting during the Blue-White Game. We’re breaking down Rappleyea’s performance in T-Frank’s Film Room.

Penn State second-year tight end sees increased role on Saturday

Examining Rappleyea’s game is an excellent window into the offense for several reasons. Firstly, tight ends are involved in the run game, pass protection, and route running. This past weekend, we got a diverse set of plays from the Penn State redshirt freshman and have a holistic sense of his progress so far.

Secondly, we can see elements of the base offensive schemes that Penn State will use because of Rappleyea’s involvement in those areas. We’ll examine run game concepts, play-action passes, and progression reads from quarterback Drew Allar.

Offensive performance

After the game, Allar gave his assessment of the performance from the Penn State offense.

“I mean, overall. I think we had a good day offensively,” Allar said. “Yeah, I think there’s just it’s gonna be a lot of learning on tape. But I think the goods outweigh the negatives. And I think the negatives that we did have on the field today are really easy and simple to fix and correct.”

We’ll examine some of those correctable mistakes and how certain players and situationis put Allar in a bad spot. Conversley, we’ll show a play where Rappleyea had a likely touchdown if the Penn State QB had stayed with his original read.

Finally, we’ll look at run-game concepts that pulled the defense out of position and created a touchdown for Penn State running back Quinton Martin. Allar described how the offense achieves these results.

“Just how much I realized, like, how much stress you can really put on a defense pre-snap with all the movement shifts and motions and things of that nature and unique formations that we’ll get to a ton this year.”

The post T-Frank’s Film Room: Tight End Andrew Rappleyea is a window into the Penn State offense appeared first on On3.

The Penn State offense played coy with most of its playbook during the Blue-White Game…

[1

post-48181","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
