Miami\u2019s<\/a><\/strong> 2025 tight end class is already everything Hurricane fans hoped for.<\/p>\n

Leo (Ind.) four-star tight end Brock Schott\u2019s<\/a><\/strong> commitment gives Miami<\/strong> a pretty much ideal tight ends group in a 2025 class loaded with blue-chip talent. Schott, a four-star prospect and the No. 205 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 10 tight end in this year\u2019s class, now gives the Hurricanes two four-star tight ends in this year\u2019s class \u2013 he joins top-250 prospect Luka Gilbert<\/a><\/strong>, who committed to Miami April 8. The Hurricanes have now landed at least one four-star tight end in six straight recruiting classes.<\/p>\n

Schott and Gilbert were two of the highest tight ends on Miami\u2019s recruiting board this cycle and give the Hurricanes the ideal talent and roster balance UM was seeking. Gilbert is more of a traditional in-line tight end with a massive 6-foot-7, 225-pound frame while Schott is a 6-foot-3.5, 215-pound H-back chess piece capable of lining up in the backfield, split out wide and receiving the ball in a variety of ways. Think of what Elija Lofton<\/a><\/strong> was in the 2024 class, but with a slightly bigger frame.<\/p>\n

Schott has the savviness and speed of a receiver combined with the strength, physicality and frame of a tight end. His top-end speed makes him exceptionally versatile and attractive as a recruit, and it\u2019s not inconceivable to see him lining up next to the quarterback as the H-back in possible split back formations where he could be used as an inset blocker on middle linebackers or a receiving threat.<\/p>\n

However, he\u2019s also athletic enough to catch short dump-off passes, make a man miss and get vertical without hesitation. He had a handful of highlights last season on jail screens where he would split out wide, give a hesitation move and sprint back in toward the ball in a clear effort from his coach to feed him the ball in space. Schott\u2019s ball skills also rival all but the best of the 2025 receivers, and his strong hands make him a nightmare for cornerbacks trying to win 50\/50 balls.<\/p>\n

Schott currently is probably more effective as a receiving tight end than a blocking tight end, which should be viewed as a compliment to his hyper-athletic skillset and makes him the perfect complement to Gilbert, who will probably fare better playing along the line of scrimmage. <\/p>\n

Schott\u2019s body is probably closer to college-ready as well, although Miami\u2019s staff will have to determine how much weight it wants to put on Schott\u2019s frame without losing the speed and mobility that makes him so dangerous.<\/p>\n
