ATHENS, Ga. \u2014<\/strong> G-Day is here. It\u2019s our annual taste of Georgia Football in the spring, giving a glimpse into what the team might look like come the fall. Saturday between the hedges, Kirby Smart\u2019s squad will split into two. The red team features the first team offense and will face off against the first team defense on the black team. With the winner getting a fancy steak dinner and the loser left to eat beanie weenies, there\u2019s more than just bragging rights on the line.<\/p>\n

Georgia returns\u00a0Carson Beck<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 who is listed as a\u00a0co-favorite for the Heisman Trophy<\/a>\u00a0alongside Quinn Ewers (Texas) and Jalen Milroe (Alabama) \u2013 at quarterback,\u00a0Smael Mondon<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0at linebacker and has added talent around each of the two team leaders. On offense, running back\u00a0Trevor Etienne<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Florida) and wide receivers\u00a0London Humphreys<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Vanderbilt) and\u00a0Colbie Young<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(Miami) each are additions from the transfer portal while defensively the Dawgs picked up South Carolina defensive lineman\u00a0Xzavier McLeod<\/a><\/strong>. That\u2019s on top of the expected returns of underclassmen like\u00a0Dillon Bell<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Malaki Starks<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Mykel Williams<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Jalon Walker<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0CJ Allen<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and others that contributed to the success of UGA in 2023, plus guys like\u00a0Nazir Stackhouse<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Warren Brinson<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Tate Ratledge<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Dominic Lovett<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Rara Thomas<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Xavier Truss<\/a><\/strong> that passed on the NFL Draft for another season in Athens.<\/p>\n

UGA also added to its team the nation\u2019s top ranked recruiting recruiting class featuring five five-stars including three considered in the class\u2019s elites by all outlets. Ellis Robinson<\/a><\/strong>, Justin Williams<\/a><\/strong> and KJ Bolden<\/a><\/strong> are all on campus already, as are others like Ryan Puglisi<\/a><\/strong>, Jaden Reddell<\/a><\/strong> and an impressive group of offensive linemen expected to contribute in the future. In total, 22 early enrollees participated in spring drills in some capacity and will see their first action in front of fans at Sanford Stadium on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs take on a tough 2024 schedule in a new look world of College Football. With conferences changing and the Playoff expanding to 12 teams, Georgia\u2019s SEC schedule won\u2019t feature the traditional Eastern Division foes. Instead, in a division-less league now, Kirby Smart\u2019s crew takes on Alabama and Texas, two semifinalists from this year\u2019s College Football Playoffs, both on the road, plus the likes of Ole Miss (road), Clemson (Atlanta) and Florida (Jacksonville) away from home. Meanwhile, dates at Sanford Stadium include matchups with Tennessee and Auburn between the hedges.<\/p>\n
