So we thought we’d take a look at several of them and see how things might play out.

What Does Trent Wilson’s Commitment Mean for Oklahoma?

Oklahoma already has a trio of commitments along the defensive line and while defensive end still has a lot of quality potential outcomes defensive tackle seems to be zeroing in a bit on it’s focuses.

At defensive tackle the Sooners hold commitments from Ka’Mori Moore as well as Wednesday’s pledge Trent Wilson. The two big men give Oklahoma the variety they are looking for inside as well as giving them some flexibility in how they move forward.

While in some years two might be enough it seems likely that Oklahoma will look to take three with defensive tackles always in short supply. And right now it seems as though three prospects are vying for the spot. Those are Floyd Boucard, Kole Briehler, and Christian Evans.

Interestingly Evans and Briehler are scheduled for Oklahoma on June 21 and Boucard is set for Norman the week before.

Evans just returned from his first visit to Norman and laid out how well things went.

“Oklahoma was great! When I landed in OKC on Friday, Coach [Todd] Bates asked if I could come to the facility directly after my flight. Me and my Dad said yes, and we went to the facility where we met Coach [Brent] Venables, along with the rest of their great staff,” Evans recalled.

“I was greeted with a very warm welcome! On Saturday, I attended the Heisman Hangout and was greeted with the same love that I had experienced the evening before. I got a tour of the beautiful facility, and then attended meetings and got to see firsthand how the rest of the defensive line was around Coach Bates. Then, before practice, I got a tour of the dorms that the freshmen stay in. I loved how close to the football facility the dorms were.

“I also learned that OU has one of the top communications programs in the country, which I will likely minor in, along with a great business program, which is my intended major. Practice was stellar! It was physical, guys were flying around making plays, and the coaches were correcting them with the mistakes they made. I also spoke with David Stone Jr after practice and I had a good talk with him! All in all, I loved my visit to OU.”

With quality options in front of them, could Oklahoma look to go with four in 2025? It seems unlikely based on the numbers but it’s far from impossible to imagine.

Right now all three seem completely possible though one can’t help but wonder if Boucard’s visit being a week ahead of his contemporaries could play a role here.

Sooners Cornerbacks Situation Has Many Outcomes

Meanwhile the decision of Maliek Hawkins has also put Oklahoma’s cornerback recruiting into motion. The Sooners have four targets that seem likely to be part of the 2025 class by National Signing Day.

The players to keep track of are Courtland Guillory, Trystan Haynes, Cobey Sellers, and Seaonta Stewart. Three of which were in Norman last weekend – Guillory, Sellers, and Stewart.

Cobey Sellers. Photo by: Josh McCuistion – SoonerScoop.com/On3

Each loved their visit and Guillory talked about his relationship with the staff continuing to grow.

“What stood out is that Oklahoma staff treats me just like family. My relationship with their staff is different from the rest. Their message to me was they really want me to come in and produce early. Coach Venables and [Jay] Valai constantly remind me of how much of a priority I am to their program,” Guillory said.

Sellers and Guillory are set for official visits on July 21 and Stewart has set his official visit for, Scoop believes, the same weekend but we’re still confirming the exact date.

Finally is Haynes, who was forecasted to Notre Dame by our Irish site this week. It seems that the prediction isn’t anything that is expected immediately but that Marcus Freeman and company are starting to feel good about their position.

Still though, Oklahoma remains in the chase for all four.

If Scoop is being honest, the two we’re probably watching most closely are Sellers and Guillory both of whom seem very high on Oklahoma at this point in time. Can Oklahoma take three cornerbacks? We’re not sure but two is the current expectation. With Hawkins on board, this could be a very interesting position to keep watching.

The 2026 Quarterback Future

Finally in the position breakdowns, we take a look at 2026 quarterback. This weekend Oklahoma will host a pair of talented signal callers. Most notable among them is Lakeland (Fla.) Jones quarterback Dereon Coleman. The Sooners offer is already in Oklahoma and will be there until tomorrow as well.

Coleman is extremely high on the Sooners.

“I plan on committing in July 3, on my birthday, but this is my dream school. And if all goes as planned it may make me make a quicker decision,” Coleman said. “But right now I am focusing on building my relationship with the head coach and seeing where I fit in with what they want.”

Keep an eye on Coleman but the Sooners will also be hosting Spring (Texas) Grand Oaks quarterback Grant Smith – who is also going to be in Norman today and tomorrow. The talented quarterback has an older brother who will be a freshman at Oklahoma next fall.

Smith already has plenty of of offers including Texas A&M, Kansas State, Arkansas, TCU, and Baylor among many others. An offer this weekend isn’t hard to imagine for Oklahoma and Smith.

Earlier this week Oklahoma already hosted the highest-rated of the trio, Jaden O’Neal of Long Beach (Calif.) Narbonne. O’Neal loved his visit and confirmed that the trip set his standard for future visits.

“The comparison is unmatched and Oklahoma just set the new standard. The only few schools to be close was UCLA and Miami but I still need to unofficial visit those schools,” O’Neal said.

“I had a blast at the University of Oklahoma, there were many things that stood out to me, but the one thing that stood out to me is the passion the coaching staff has into developing there football players on and off the field. They were very genuine and real people, being on campus and talking to the staff I can relate to them. I’m looking forward to continuing building the relationship.

And as for O’Neal’s thoughts on Oklahoma’s offense that he had a chance to watch during pracitce?

“The offense is amazing I love the different concepts they have taking questions through high/low reads.”

Coleman this weekend is going to be a very intriguing situation to watch. However, if he leaves without committing the Sooners 2026 quarterback situation could still go in a number of directions.

Sooners Hosting 5-Star on Friday

One of the biggest visitors of the spring hits Norman today as the Sooners will be hosting Michael Fasusi. The big offensive tackle has been a bit under the radar this spring. But few schools are perceived to have shifted their standing with the nation’s No. 19 overall player in the On3 Industry rankings.

But according to Fasusi, who confirmed his plans for Norman on Friday, there’s nothing to say the Sooners aren’t a priority in his recruitment.

“There’s no doubt OU is still in there,” Fasusi said of his recruitment.

Michael Fasusi. Photo by Josh McCuistion – SoonerScoop.com/On3

The big man will be seeing Norman for the first time this spring and we’ll look to catch up with him soon. But the bottom line is that the timing for an Oklahoma visit seems opportune as he gets ready for his summer official visits.

Key Sooners LB Offer Still Loving OU

One of last weekend’s big visitors was On3’s No. 81 overall linebacker Dawson Merritt. The talented ‘backer had tried to make it repeatedly to Norman but finally got there last weekend. And according to him the Sooners are in strong position in his recruitment.

“OU was amazing,” Merritt said. “OU is a top school for me right now throughout this process for sure. I’m loving everything about the program.”

Could OU Get Involved with USC Transfer?

One of the interesting storylines to emerge this week was USC freshman Jason Zandamela entering the transfer portal. During his recruitment Oklahoma made a real run at Zandamela and considering he was the nation’s No. 1 center and the Sooners seem to have a need at the position. So, it makes sense for Oklahoma to get involved, right?

Well, yes and no. Scoop believes the Sooners will have some interest but it’s not quite as cut and dry.

There’s no denying that Oklahoma wants to create some competition at center and feels Zandamela is extremely talented. But does he have the experience to truly help the offensive line? Scoop just isn’t sure but it’s going to be an interesting situation to follow.

OU Impresses Big 10 Area Offensive Lineman

One of Thursday’s big visitors was Cleveland St. Ignatius offensive lineman Will Conroy. The big man, ranked No. 276 in the On3 Industry ranking, really enjoyed his time in Norman.

“I loved it, it was fantastic,” Conroy said of his Sooners trip. “It went way past my expectations. I didn’t know what to expect coming in but it felt really good for sure.

“The culture and the standard I think Oklahoma has a standard. And if you’re not following it in the bus your gonna get left behind.”

Conroy had a unique chance to watch the Sooners offensive line, a topic of much debate this spring, and offered his thoughts.

“They have a lot of injured right now but I believe by the season coach [Bill Bedenbaugh] with get them right,” he offered.

The post Sooners Future Taking Shape appeared first on On3.

[1

post-47407","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
