The Georgia<\/a><\/strong> wide receiver room has plenty of speed in it this year, as head coach Kirby Smart<\/a><\/strong> said during spring practice. However, he isn\u2019t quite sure if it\u2019s the fastest group he\u2019s had at UGA.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s plenty of returning production coming back, notably Ladd McConkey<\/a><\/strong> and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint<\/a><\/strong>. But redshirt freshman C.J. Smith<\/a><\/strong> will join the group after sitting out last year and four-star freshman Anthony Evans<\/a><\/strong> also joined the ranks this spring as an early enrollee. Add in Arian Smith<\/a><\/strong>, who\u2019s gearing up for his fourth year, and the Georgia wide receivers look like they could play fast this season.<\/p>\n

That said, Smart wasn\u2019t ready to say this was the fastest receiver room he\u2019s had.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know that,\u201d Smart said<\/a>. \u201c[It\u2019s] hard to say that because you throw Arian [Smith] in there and you know he\u2019s fast. He\u2019s as fast as we\u2019ve had. He\u2019s been part of the recent receiver groups. C.J. Smith is really fast, has done a good job growing up. Anthony Evans has been dealing with a little bit of an ankle sprain. He went early in practice, but he didn\u2019t get to finish out. He didn\u2019t re-injure it. He\u2019s just got a nagging injury. But he\u2019s fast. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard to say. It\u2019s one of the largest shear group we\u2019ve had in numbers. We\u2019re able to put ones, twos, threes out there, and I can remember past springs, we were just depleted at that position. I can\u2019t answer whether it\u2019s the fastest or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Georgia also added some pieces from the transfer portal<\/a><\/strong> this offseason after he didn\u2019t do so last year. Former Texas A&M<\/a><\/strong> wide receiver Rara Thomas<\/a><\/strong> and former Missouri<\/a><\/strong> receiver Dominic Lovett<\/a><\/strong> are both in the fold after becoming the Nos. 11 and 12-ranked players to hit the portal this cycle, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings<\/a><\/strong>. They\u2019ll look to add to the depth at the position as Georgia tries to sort out its quarterback situation.<\/p>\n

The competition between Carson Beck<\/a><\/strong>, Brock Vandagriff<\/a><\/strong> and Gunner Stockton<\/a><\/strong> is still ongoing, especially since Vandagriff opted to stay at UGA instead of enter the portal, as On3 and DawgsHQ\u2019s Jake Rowe reported<\/a><\/strong>. That was one of the biggest storylines through spring practice, and DawgsHQ owner\/publisher Rusty Mansell<\/a><\/strong> provided an update on the quarterback decision on On3 Roundtable<\/a><\/strong><\/em> earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout the last two weeks, Carson Beck really separated himself a little bit and he (carried) that into that spring game where he had a great game,\u201d Mansell said<\/a>. \u201cBut here\u2019s what I\u2019ll say: nobody on that roster has played a meaningful minute yet. Nobody has been the guy on Monday that\u2019s gonna face Auburn. A guy that\u2019s gonna face Florida. A guy that\u2019s gonna face Tennessee in Knoxville. I caution sometimes to say, \u2018this job is done.\u2019 It\u2019s not done. I am right now still thinking Carson Beck is the guy, but you\u2019ve gotta see it play out on the field. That will not be answered until some point in the season. But right now I think Carson Beck is that guy.\u201d<\/p>\n
