{"id":3628,"date":"2023-04-26T14:27:52","date_gmt":"2023-04-26T19:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/demo.wztzfm.com\/wp\/?p=3628"},"modified":"2023-04-26T14:27:52","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T19:27:52","slug":"colorado-legacy-travis-gray-son-of-1990-national-champion-reveals-blunt-way-deion-sanders-cut-him-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/demo.wztzfm.com\/wp\/colorado-legacy-travis-gray-son-of-1990-national-champion-reveals-blunt-way-deion-sanders-cut-him-others\/","title":{"rendered":"Colorado legacy Travis Gray, son of 1990 national champion, reveals blunt way Deion Sanders cut him, others"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/deion-sanders-133929\/\">Deion Sanders<\/a><\/strong> first got to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/colorado-buffaloes\/\">Colorado<\/a><\/strong>, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/colorado-buffaloes\/news\/deion-sanders-shares-what-comes-next-for-colorado-after-spring-game\/\">made it clear <\/a>that there was going to be an exodus of players because he would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/news\/im-coming-deion-sanders-move-to-colorado-a-perfect-recruiting-storm\/\">bringing his own \u201cluggage.\u201d<\/a> Now, that near-biblical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/colorado-buffaloes\/news\/jd-pickell-identifies-whats-behind-colorado-roster-exodus-deion-sanders\/\">exodus<\/a> of players is underway and it has seen him show numerous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/news\/the-controlled-burning-at-colorado-deion-sanders-has-become-college-footballs-fireman\/\">players the door<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>One of the players that was shown the door was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/travis-gray-114588\/\">Travis Gray<\/a><\/strong>, a Colorado legacy whose dad was <strong>Lamarr Gray<\/strong>, an outside linebacker on the 1990 national championship team. <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4451509\/2023\/04\/26\/deion-sanders-colorado-transfer-portal\/?source=user_shared_article\">As he explained to <em>The Athletic<\/em><\/a>, offensive line coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/bill-oboyle-135230\/\">Bill O\u2019Boyle<\/a><\/strong> was the first to tell him he was going to be cut before Deion Sanders gave him the blunt news.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, God.\u2019 I saw the mean mug in his face,\u201d Gray said. \u201cHe told me, \u2018You\u2019re 6-foot-8, 320 pounds. I know in my heart of hearts a school is going to pick you up in the portal when you enter. Make your weaknesses your strengths and keep progressing. I hope you have a great future, it just won\u2019t be here at the University of Colorado.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ColoradoBuffaloesOn3\">*Follow all Colorado Buffaloes news on Facebook here*<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Like that, the Colorado native who wanted to follow in his father\u2019s footsteps was no longer a part of the program.<\/p>\n<p>According to tight end <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/zach-courtney-122651\/\">Zach Courtney<\/a><\/strong>, coaches treated the players who they were running off differently than the players they brought in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of the new coaches would talk to the old players and treat us the same as the people they brought in,\u201d Courtney said. \u201cThe new guys wouldn\u2019t be picked on as much in film. Coaches would tell them to just do better, but if it was an old player, they\u2019d keep going off on what you did wrong and keep yelling about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Courtney is the player who brought it up on social media that Colorado <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/colorado-buffaloes\/news\/tight-end-zachary-courtney-access-practice-film-head-coach-deion-sanders-ncaa-transfer-portal\/\">isn\u2019t giving players being forced out access to their practice film<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the coaches who are trying to recruit me,\u201d Courtney\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZacharyCourtn11\/status\/1650953800893562880?s=20\">said<\/a>\u00a0via Twitter. \u201cI am sorry but I will not be able to get y\u2019all my film from my practices last season since I am not allowed to have it because the head coach at CU won\u2019t allow it. This is very unlucky and if you have any questions just text me!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also pointed out that Deion Sanders acted as a motivational speaker, not a coach. He also said that Sanders really didn\u2019t try to build a relationship with him. That\u2019s the same experience that Gray had.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo relationship with him at all. I said what\u2019s up to him a few times,\u201d said Gray. \u201cI\u2019m not sure he knew the names of half the kids he got rid of. He was worried about who he brought in. If you were on the 1-11 team, it seemed like he didn\u2019t really care about us at all. He already said he was going to get rid of 25-30 of us, and that\u2019s exactly what he did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other players who spoke to <em>The Athletic<\/em> agreed. The new players were treated favorably compared to the old ones. One anonymous player even said, \u201cWherever the camera\u2019s at, that\u2019s where Deion is.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Jim Mora seemingly takes a shot at Deion Sanders<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/connecticut-huskies\/\">UConn<\/a><\/strong> head coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/jim-mora-132788\/\">Jim Mora<\/a><\/strong> noticed the comments that Zach Courtney made on Twitter about not being given access to his film. Taking issue with that, Mora explained the issue with that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny coach that won\u2019t allow a transfer to access film is operating from a place of complete paranoia. You really believe an opponent can gather info from random clips?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/news\/jim-mora-calls-out-deion-sanders-for-withholding-film-from-transfer-players-colorado-buffaloes-connecticut-huskies\/\">Jim Mora said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c@Realrclark25.
