Miami (Fla.) Miami Central four-star wide receiver Lawayne McCoy<\/a><\/strong> announced his commitment to Florida State<\/a><\/strong> during a visit to Tallahassee on Thursday. The news was reported<\/a> by Warchant. <\/p>\n

McCoy is the No. 294 overall prospect and No. 48 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking<\/strong><\/a>, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 41 player in Florida. <\/p>\n

Landing the 6-foot-0, 170-pound wideout marked a great recruiting win for head coach Mike Norvell<\/a><\/strong> and his staff. That is in part because last night, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star safety\u00a0Jordan Pride<\/a><\/strong> decommitted from the Seminoles. <\/p>\n

McCoy is now the fourth-highest-rated recruit in Florida State\u2019s 2024 recruiting class<\/a>, which ranks No. 10 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings<\/a><\/strong> and No. 1 in the ACC<\/a><\/strong>. He is also one of the group\u2019s three wide receivers alongside Fort Myers (Fla.) Dunbar four-star Tawaski Abrams<\/a><\/strong> and Lake City (Fla.) Columbia three-star Camdon Frier<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n

McCoy praised Florida State during January visit <\/h2>\n

The Seminoles have already hosted McCoy twice this year. His previous visit to Florida State came on Jan. 28 during the program\u2019s junior day. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey are straight up,\u201d McCoy told Michael Langston of Warchant<\/a>. \u201cWhere I come from, I have straight coaches that will be on you every day, and that\u2019s what this staff does. That\u2019s the type of coaching I see there. Today, I saw the bonds with all of the coaching staff. It is really long-term \u2014 life after football.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach (Ron) Dugans<\/a><\/strong> is a really cool guy. He\u2019s always trying to make me laugh and feel right at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

During that trip, McCoy met with both Dugans and Norvell one-on-one. The four-star, who shared with Langston that he felt like a longtime priority to Florida State, likes how the Seminoles run their offense. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey like to go with the deep ball and they really like the fade balls,\u201d McCoy said. \u201cThey really air it out in this offense. With the program, I think it\u2019s guys believing in Coach Norvell.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCoach Norvell, that\u2019s my guy. I feel like they are following through in his footsteps and plans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last season, Florida State finished 10-3, and are considered a serious national championship contender for the 2023 season. McCoy has noticed the increased optimism around Tallahassee. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like they made a big change this year by winning a bowl game, and I feel like they are going to be top 10 or higher and a threat in the ACC for sure,\u201d McCoy said.<\/p>\n
