After breaking down each one of Dak Prescott<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s 2022 interceptions, former NFL head coach Mike Martz believes the Dallas Cowboys quarterback will have dramatic improvement next season. Martz believes the improvement will come from Mike McCarthy taking over his own offense and increasing discipline.<\/p>\n

The former Rams coach\u2019s posted a video on The33rdTeam<\/a> this week, during which he evaluates what went wrong and the quarterback\u2019s decision-making on the 17 plays that resulted in interceptions this year.<\/p>\n

Martz\u2019 evaluation is probably very similar to what Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy went through with Prescott this offseason. <\/p>\n

Including the postseason, Dak Prescott threw 17 interceptions last season\u2026 but how many were his fault?<\/p>\n

After bringing on his new offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, and new quarterbacks coach, Scott Tolzein, McCarthy told reporters that they\u2019d \u201cspent some time\u201d going over each of the picks with the veteran.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefinitely, we spent some time,\u201d McCarthy said,\u00a0via the team\u2019s official website<\/a>. \u201cHe was in for the captains\u2019 workout. So he came up and spent about four hours with (quarterbacks coach) Scott (Tolzien) and I. And we went back and looked at his decision-making opportunities and the interceptions and potential interceptions and just talking through it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though it may not be healthy for fans to dwell on the mistakes of the 2022 season, McCarthy believes it\u2019s healthy and essential for Prescott and his new staffers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s healthy,\u201d McCarthy said of evaluating the interceptions. \u201cI thought Doug (Nussmeier) did an excellent job with the quarterbacks. But you know, the room will be different. Any time you have a new coach in there and it\u2019ll be Scott\u2019s new opportunity, too. But Brian and I will be in there pretty much full time so they\u2019ll be getting that landscape laid too. But it\u2019s pretty fluid.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Martz\u2019 breakdown shows, many of the Cowboys\u2019 interceptions were not necessarily Dak Prescott\u2019s fault. Sometimes, his receiver\u2019s lack of separation had the QB throwing in windows that proved much too tight. That\u2019s one area Dallas is hoping to improve in 2023. By acquiring Brandin Cooks<\/a><\/strong> in a trade from the Texans, the Cowboys are already making headway there.<\/p>\n
