College football is a competitive race. During an appearance on \u201cPat McAfee Show\u201d on Friday, Rece Davis revealed how he chooses which teams are leading the pack.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t care at all about [Georgia winning back-to-back national championships],\u201d Davis said.<\/a><\/strong> \u201cI think there\u2019s so many different guys that you can\u2019t really evaluate it that way. It is fair to evaluate what you think of their talent.\u201d<\/p>\n Although Georgia<\/a><\/strong> stills sits at No. 1 in the AP Top 25 Poll<\/a><\/strong>, Davis clearly doesn\u2019t believe the team\u2019s talent warrants the college football crown. In Week 3, Davis had a different program atop the pile:<\/p>\n Davis\u2019 Rankings<\/strong>:<\/p>\n 1. Florida State<\/a><\/strong> On Friday, the ESPN analyst defended his rankings.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a mixture of art and science,\u201d Davis said. \u201cI have Florida State No. 1. I had Michigan at No. 1 in the preseason. I still think they might be the best team, but they\u2019re down a little bit right now because they haven\u2019t played anybody.<\/p>\n \u201cFlorida State has two great wins and Texas has a great win. If Texas wins Saturday, I will seriously consider putting them at No. 1. If Washington wins next week, I think they merit consideration for No. 1 too.\u201d<\/p>\n Davis\u2019 top five face no shortage of tough competition this weekend. Texas will face off against No. 12 Oklahoma<\/a><\/strong>. Meanwhile, Georgia will go toe-to-toe with No. 20 Kentucky<\/a><\/strong>. If UGA wins, it will be the team\u2019s first victory over a ranked opponent this season.<\/p>\n On the other hand, Texas\u2019 battle with Oklahoma will be its third ranked matchup this season and second-straight after defeating No. 24 Kansas<\/a><\/strong> 40-14 last week. While Davis attacks his top five from a different angle, it\u2019s ultimately not much different from the AP Top 25.<\/p>\n AP Poll\u2019s Top 5:<\/strong><\/p>\n GeorgiaMichiganTexasOhio StateFlorida State<\/p>\n Davis\u2019 most glaring difference is his exclusion of Ohio State<\/a><\/strong>. Despite their last-second win over Notre Dame<\/a><\/strong> last week, the Buckeyes were nowhere to be found on Davis\u2019 list. Perhaps another win on Saturday can push OSU into Davis\u2019 exclusive group.<\/p>\n On Saturday, Ohio State will take on the undefeated Maryland Terrapins<\/a><\/strong>, who are led by quarterback\u00a0Taulia Tagovailoa<\/a><\/strong>. The fifth-year QB has already amassed 1,464 passing yards and 13 touchdowns this season while throwing just three interceptions.<\/p>\n Davis\u2019 rankings will be tested this weekend.
