It had a first-round bye for the bracket play Sunday morning.

Notre Dame quarterback commit CJ Carr led California Power to a 27-14 victory in the semifinals (there weren’t many teams in the tournament), and then the four-star prospect was key in a 20-6 victory for the championship.

On day one, Carr only had three passes fall to the ground. In the two games on Sunday, I believe he threw three or four incompletions. And how about this — every drive that Carr led ended in a touchdown. He and Mission Viejo (Calif.) High class of 2026 quarterback Luke Fahey swapped drives.

My final thoughts are basically the same as what I wrote in my report on Saturday — the competition wasn’t very good at this tournament, but Carr was simply outstanding. He made everything look easy. Carr didn’t need to take many deep shots because he was carving defenses up in the intermediate game, but when he did, he was pinpoint. His receivers also made some incredible contested catches; Carr put passes in position for those guys to make the receptions.

Honestly, I didn’t learn anything about Carr that I didn’t already know from the football side of things, but it was cool to see more of what he’s like as a kid and a leader. I would describe him as playful and encouraging. These 7v7 tournaments are really just for fun, and Carr and the California Power team made the most of it. Carr even played receiver and caught a goal line touchdown pass on an inside route during his team’s easy win in the semifinals.

But in the finals, the joking around ceased and it was all business. And Carr was money as he was all week.

Quick-hitters

— St. Louis Christian Brothers class of 2024 wideout and Notre Dame target Jeremiah McClellan played for California Power Sunday after being absent Saturday. He was wearing Ohio State sleeves, and he looks to be trending towards the Buckeyes. In terms of McClellan as a player, I’m bullish on his talents. I think he’s one of the best receivers in the 2024 class. He’s not the tallest, but he has a knack of getting open, has a strong build and can play all over the field on offense.

— Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North class of 2025 prospect Isaiah Mozee is a similar player to McClellan at receiver. He’s only 6-0 but is built like a brick as just a sophomore and is an excellent route runner. His ball skills were superb as well. Notre Dame receivers coach Chansi Stuckey is in pursuit of Mozee.

— Notre Dame would love to have Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco cornerback Jason Mitchell in its 2024 class, but it hasn’t made any progress with him. Mitchell doesn’t seem to be interested in the Irish, and it’s too bad, but he’s a freak show of an athlete. He’s listed at 6-2, 180 pounds, but with his length, he looks more like 6-4. He’s being projected as a safety, but he played cornerback this weekend and looked outstanding. Mitchell is considered a lean to USC.

— Henderson (Nev.) Liberty class of 2024 wide receiver Landon Bell is committed to Washington and I’m not sure if the Irish staff has much interest in him, but I really liked him. Bell is listed at 6-3, 190 pounds, but he looks well over 200 pounds and might be more of a flex-tight end at the next level. He’s a physical pass catcher who is dangerous in the red zone. Carr connected well with him this weekend.

— The aforementioned Luke Fahey will be one to watch for the 2026 class. I loved his throwing motion and arm strength — especially with him being just a freshman.

The post Final thoughts on CJ Carr and Notre Dame targets from Pylon Knoxville 7v7 appeared first on On3.

The California Power 7v7 team, a national group with prospects from all over the country,…

[1

post-1859","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
