Four games into the season and Spencer Rattler is playing on another level.<\/p>\n
Never mind the fact that South Carolina ranks eighth in the nation in passing yards per game, but Rattler himself has done a phenomenal job of protecting the football. With those two things combined, it\u2019s led him to earn more leash from offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a line I always tell Spencer, it\u2019s biblical,\u201d said Loggains. \u201cTo whom much is given much is required. He\u2019s earned my trust. Some days with him you feel like Superman as a play-caller. You can call anything and he\u2019ll make it right. He\u2019s spaghetti sauce, he\u2019ll cover-up anything. He can get you out of bad plays and get you into good plays.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s not like he\u2019s only throwing short passes as his top target Xavier Legette leads the nation with 556 yards receiving.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t speak enough about through the first four weeks and what he\u2019s (meant) for me and my confidence as a play-caller and my confidence in this offense. You can take more risks. You\u2019re not sitting in there at midnight saying, \u2018Well, what if they do this? What if they do that?\u2019 You know what, I bet we can teach Spencer if he sees this to get to that. That doesn\u2019t happen very often.\u201d<\/p>\n With already over 1,200 yards passing and seven touchdowns, Rattler isn\u2019t only helping South Carolina. He\u2019s also been able to help himself with his draft stock. Loggains is well aware of that but he\u2019ll continue to give his QB tough love because he knows he\u2019ll continue to need it starting this weekend in Knoxville.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s had a really good four weeks. It\u2019s just four weeks though. It\u2019s the first quarter of the season and now we\u2019re entering the second quarter\u2026 He deserves a lot of the credit he\u2019s getting \u2014 he deserves all of it and the accolades. But it still comes down to work and preparation and making sure we keep doing it and that we\u2019re doing it every week. Every day is an interview in this conference.\u201d<\/p>\n With South Carolina playing Tennessee this weekend, it\u2019s hard not to think back to Rattler\u2019s program record six passing touchdown performance last year against the Vols.
