Alabama head coach Nick Saban opened his press conference with big news, announcing that Jalen Milroe will be the starting quarterback for the Crimson Tide moving forward.<\/p>\n
Saban cited Milroe showing \u201cleadership\u201d as a big part of the decision. <\/p>\n
ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum joined SportsCenter Monday afternoon and shared that he was perplexed by Saban\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve covered Nick Saban since the day he arrived in the SEC and this is maybe the most puzzling statement I\u2019ve ever heard him make,\u201d Finebaum said. \u201cI don\u2019t know how you pull a guy, who you had named your starter in the first game. He struggled in the second game against Texas. And then you name [him] the backup. You don\u2019t play the guy, and now he\u2019s your best player, because he showed leadership \u2014 essentially being a cheerleader during the game. I mean I don\u2019t know how you can unpack that one any better than what I\u2019ve just said. And it still doesn\u2019t make any sense.\u201d<\/p>\n
Paul Finebaum added that he believes Saban is going back to Milroe because he doesn\u2019t have another option.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Nick Saban realized that he doesn\u2019t have any other quarterbacks,\u201d Finebaum said. \u201cMilroe is a big-play artist. He can break a play as well as he can throw an interception. And that\u2019s his best chance of winning, whatever that means.\u201d<\/p>\n
