{"id":1566,"date":"2023-03-30T14:35:32","date_gmt":"2023-03-30T19:35:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/demo.wztzfm.com\/wp\/?p=1566"},"modified":"2023-03-30T14:35:32","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T19:35:32","slug":"on300-no-1-ath-terry-bussey-dishes-on-contenders-visits-and-decision-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/demo.wztzfm.com\/wp\/on300-no-1-ath-terry-bussey-dishes-on-contenders-visits-and-decision-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"On300 No. 1 ATH Terry Bussey dishes on contenders, visits and decision plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/terry-bussey-148387\/\">Terry Bussey<\/a><\/strong> is the top athlete in the country out of small-town Timpson, Texas. <\/p>\n<p>While his recruitment already has a national feel to it, the elite playmaker getting recruited on both sides of the ball by colleges nation-bound has still hardly dived into it just yet.<\/p>\n<p>Bussey has been juggling a rigid schedule since his junior football season came to a finish in the UIL state semifinals back in December. He\u2019s been balancing basketball, track and baseball, along with offseason 7-on-7 and, of course, his classwork. <\/p>\n<p>Bussey visited Texas A&amp;M and Baylor in January. He was slated to be in Baton Rouge to see LSU for the first time this weekend (April 1), but track will keep him in East Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Schools like the aforementioned Aggies, Bears and Tigers are all in the thick of Bussey\u2019s recruitment along with Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma and TCU.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been trying to plan visits here and there, but this spring has been busy with track and baseball. I\u2019ve had to reschedule and miss the visits, but I\u2019m trying to go out and see places,\u201d Bussey told <strong>On3<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically, a lot of them,\u201d the No. 1 athlete in America added.<\/p>\n<h2>Aggies have established rapport with Bussey<\/h2>\n<p>One of Bussey\u2019s earliest overtures came from Texas A&amp;M. The Timpson (Texas) High School do-it-all playmaker has been to College Station more than any other campus early on in his recruitment.<\/p>\n<p>The Aggies are leading the way early on the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/terry-bussey-148387\/recruiting\/163106\/rpm\/\">On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine<\/a><\/strong>. Defensive backs coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/tj-rushing-133372\/\">TJ Rushing<\/a><\/strong> is leading the charge for Bussey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey just feel like family every time I go up there,\u201d Bussey said. \u201cI have good relationships with all the coaches and it\u2019s good going up there because every time I\u2019m there I get to know them a little bit more and they get to know me a little more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey treat me like family,\u201d the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/rankings\/player\/football\/2024\/\">No. 13 in the On300<\/a><\/strong> for 2024 continued. \u201cI have good relationships with the staff and when I\u2019m up there, it feels like family.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Texas and LSU working to get Bussey on campus this spring<\/h2>\n<p>The coaching staffs at Texas and LSU have been working hard behind the scenes to get the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder from East Texas on campus for spring practices.<\/p>\n<p>The Longhorns offered Bussey in January and the program\u2019s ascension has caught the in-state athlete\u2019s attention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re building a relationship right now, getting to know each other more and more, and I\u2019m trying to get out there to see it,\u201d Bussey said of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems like they\u2019re building something good out there. It\u2019s fun to see what they\u2019ve got going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bussey was penciled in to get to LSU this weekend but instead will compete in state relays. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/kerry-cooks-131693\/\">Kerry Cooks<\/a><\/strong> and the Tigers\u2019 staff have been making themselves very present in his recruitment throughout the spring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was trying to get up there April 1, but I have to reschedule it,\u201d he said. \u201cEver since I\u2019ve been talking to Coach Cooks, they\u2019ve been really on me. I have a good relationship with him and I want to get up there and see what it\u2019s all about.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>TCU, Baylor among Bussey\u2019s in-state options<\/h2>\n<p>TCU wide receivers coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/malcolm-kelly-81572\/\">Malcolm Kelly<\/a><\/strong> is an East Texas legend that is aiming to add Bussey to his wide receiver room next year.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly has established the Horned Frogs as contenders with the On300 standout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoach Kelly, he\u2019s really a great guy,\u201d Bussey said. \u201cI talk to him a lot and we have a strong relationship. He\u2019s been in the mix since the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Baylor defensive backs coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/kevin-curtis-131918\/\">Kevin Curtis<\/a><\/strong> has similar pull. The Bears got Bussey on campus in January and have been pillars in his recruitment to date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoach Curtis and I have a strong relationship,\u201d he said. \u201cWe talk almost every day probably and that\u2019s what has Baylor sticking around with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee, Oklahoma and Alabama were among the other programs Bussey mentioned as far as contenders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoach Curtis from Baylor, Coach Rushing from A&amp;M, Coach Kelly from TCU, Coach <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/db\/coach\/coleman-hutzler-133955\/\">Coleman (Hutzler)<\/a><\/strong> at \u2018Bama,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s quite a few (coaches) I\u2019ve been clicking with recently, quite a few of them I\u2019m building a strong relationship with.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Bussey\u2019s decision will stretch into the season<\/h2>\n<p>As spring sports hold up Bussey\u2019s ability to dive deeper into his contenders, he is not rushing his process.<\/p>\n<p>The On300 athlete believes a decision will come after the start of his senior season at Timpson High School. No teams have been guaranteed official visits, though he hopes to have it narrowed down a bit more by the fall after soaking up some visits.<\/p>\n<p>Academics will be a critical X-factor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking for a great academic program and what feels like home for me,\u201d the electric Bussey noted. \u201cI\u2019m a big academics guy and I\u2019ll probably major in engineering.
