Notre Dame quarterback commit CJ Carr<\/a><\/strong> stepped onto the Brighton (Mich.) High Stadium turf and sliced through the humidity and opposing Bulldogs defense. And the four-star signal caller from Saline (Mich.) High did it efficiently and effectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-2 \u00bd, 195-pound passer guided the Hornets to a 42-3 victory on a hot and muggy Thursday night in his senior season debut. It began with a surgical effort that included Carr, the On3 Industry Ranking\u2019s No. 1 prospect in Michigan, completing all six passes for 45 yards on the opening drive.<\/p>\n

Carr\u2019s teammate, James Rush<\/strong>, capped off the first series with a 15-yard rushing score. It set the stage for a solid debut in the future Irish quarterback\u2019s 2023 campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had known that they were not going to let us go deep on them,\u201d Carr told Blue & Gold<\/a><\/strong> in the locker room postgame before Brighton officials cleared out the facility due to an impending tornado warning. \u201cIt ended up great. It was a momentum starter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carr built on the first stanza by completing his next four passes for 27 yards. Although that series ended without a score, an 80-yard pitch and catch by LaDainian Woods<\/strong> on the ensuing possession delivered a 14-3 Saline lead.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really good when you have athletes that I can dump it down, and they can take it,\u201d Carr said of the play. \u201cIt was a really good play, and I\u2019m excited to have those type of guys on this team.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Eventually, Carr dropped his best throw of the game into a bucket for a 35-yard gain. That set up his only touchdown of the game: a 5-yard rushing score, with under five minutes to play in the second quarter. Saline pulled ahead 21-3.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Before his younger brother, Tommy Carr<\/strong>, took over at quarterback in the fourth quarter, Carr engineered three more scoring drives. His only mishap was a fluke interception. Otherwise, Carr had an outstanding start to his senior season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The On3 Industry Ranking\u2019s No. 50 0verall player and No. 6 quarterback finished the night 20-29 for 276 yards. He also showcased his rushing ability on his final series of the game by rushing for 12- and 16-yard gains.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Carr\u2019s senior campaign continues by welcoming Dexter (Mich.) High to Saline High School on<\/a><\/strong> Sept. 1. Last season, he and the Hornets fell to the Dexter Dreadnaughts 21-14. Despite whatever Dexter or the weather throws at him, Carr will be ready to carve it up.<\/p>\n
