We are now just over a week away from Nebraska\u2019s 2023 season opener at Minnesota and the debut of the Matt Rhule<\/a><\/strong> era.<\/p>\n

The Huskers will release their first official depth chart on Friday at the start of game week. Unlike previous coaching staffs, Rhule said it would actually be \u201ca real one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on everything we\u2019ve heard throughout the offseason, HuskerOnline has come up with our projected depth charts leading up to next week\u2019s game in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n

Today, we start with predicting Nebraska\u2019s offense for Week 1\u2026<\/p>\n

Quarterback<\/h2>\n

1. Jeff Sims<\/a><\/strong>, Jr.<\/p>\n

2. Chubba Purd<\/a><\/strong>y, So.<\/p>\n

Heinrich Haarberg<\/a><\/strong>, So.<\/p>\n

HOL Take: <\/strong>Sims has been the clear starter since the end of spring ball, but the competition for the No. 2 job has gone on all offseason. Our take is that if Nebraska needed to go to another QB in a game after Sims, Purdy would get the nod. Haarberg could get opportunities in situational packages and maybe even at another position. <\/p>\n

Running back<\/h2>\n

1. Gabe Ervin Jr.<\/a><\/strong>, Jr.<\/p>\n

HOL Take:<\/strong> Rhule\u2019s blunt criticism of Grant\u2019s issues with ball security shored up the discussion about Nebraska\u2019s starting running back. Grant will still play, and Rahmir Johnson will be the third-down back. But Ervin will be the clear No. 1 going into Minnesota.<\/p>\n

HOL Take: <\/strong>Kemp and Garcia-Castaneda are clear starters, but Washington\u2019s status for Minnesota remains unknown as he recovers from injury. It\u2019s too early to know how the true freshmen will factor into the rotation, but there\u2019s a good chance Coleman, Doss, and Lloyd will play beyond their four-game redshirt windows.<\/p>\n

The Weekly Rundown: Nebraska putting a close on fall camp to begin preparations for Minnesota<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tight end<\/h2>\n

1. Thomas Fidone<\/a><\/strong>, So.<\/p>\n

2. Nate Boerkircher<\/a><\/strong>, So.<\/p>\n

Others to watch:<\/strong> Arik Gilbert<\/a><\/strong>, So.; Jake Appleget<\/a><\/strong>, RFr.; Bonner<\/p>\n

HOL Take:<\/strong> Given that Gilbert remains ineligible this season until (if?) the NCAA approves his waiver, we\u2019re leaving him off the depth chart for now. We haven\u2019t heard much about the tight end group after Fidone and Boerkircher, but Appleget could be the next man up with Gilbert out.<\/p>\n

Steven Sipple: Big Ten Network analyst Gerry DiNardo regards Matt Rhule as a \u201cperfect fit\u201d for Nebraska in at least one regard<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

If NU rules out Prochazka for Minnesota, the true freshman Gottula would vault to the No. 2 LT. Sledge is another true freshman who we think has secured a spot in the two-deep at left guard.<\/p>\n
