Michigan<\/a><\/strong> football head coach Jim Harbaugh will officially be out for the first three games of the 2023 season after the university elected to self-impose a suspension due to recruiting violations and an investigation with the NCAA.<\/p>\n

Michigan Athletics and Director Warde Manuel announced the suspension on Monday, and Harbaigh responded with a brief statement through media reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will continue to do what I always tell our players and my kids at home, \u2018Don\u2019t get bitter, get better,\u2019\u201d Harbaugh said, via\u00a0ESPN\u2019s Pete Thamel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Michigan released its statement on Monday afternoon, saying that Harbaugh would miss games against East Carolina, UNLV and Bowling Green. The Wolverine\u2019s Chris Balas was the first to report that Harbaugh informed the team of the decision Monday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe University of Michigan Athletic Department today (August 21) announced that it is self-imposing sanctions in an ongoing NCAA matter related to its football program,\u201d the U-M statement read<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cIncluded in the self-imposed sanctions is a three-game suspension for Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, to be served during the opening three regular-season games of the 2023 season. The sanctions are in addition to previously imposed recruiting restrictions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel also weighed in.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the ongoing NCAA matter continues through the NCAA process, today\u2019s announcement is our way of addressing mistakes that our department has agreed to in an attempt to further that process,\u201d Manuel said. \u201cWe will continue to support coach Harbaugh, his staff, and our outstanding student-athletes. Per the NCAA\u2019s guidelines, we cannot comment further until the matter is resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n
