LSU had its first three practices of the fall last week from Thursday through Saturday and after a day off on Sunday, the team will be back in action for a full week of work and preparation for the 2023 season. With much more time for the media to view practices, there\u2019s a real opportunity to gain some clarity over some of the bigger questions lingering around this team entering 2023.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s the upcoming schedule for the week and three things that I\u2019m looking forward to seeing this week as we watch practice unfold and get to talk to the coaching staff and players.<\/p>\n

As you would expect from a program in the second season under an accomplished head coach, there was less interjection, less teaching of how things are going to work, which is valuable for this staff and roster. We also get to talk to players twice this week, so hearing their thoughts on the differences will be noteworthy.<\/p>\n Competitions begin to heat up<\/strong><\/p>\n Brian Kelly\u2019s quote about him wanting six practices before really shaking things up along the depth chart stood out to a lot of LSU fans. Last year, it wasn\u2019t until the second half of fall camp when Will Campbell and Mason Taylor, and others began taking over and pushing for starting jobs. Who will that be this year? There\u2019s plenty of competition in the secondary, on the offensive line, and in the running back room, and I expect that this week we begin to get some clarity on those position battles.<\/p>\n Testing out different positions<\/strong><\/p>\n With a few practices down, it\u2019s possible we see more players trying out different spots. We\u2019ve mentioned Greg Brooks\u2019 versatility, Emery Jones\u2019 flexibility on the offensive line, Dashawn Womack and Harold Perkins\u2019 potential as pass rushers in different packages, and all sorts of combinations across the secondary.
