Iowa State<\/a><\/strong> quarterback Hunter Dekkers<\/a><\/strong> is apparently not the only person in his family involved in his alleged betting on Cyclones sporting events, including a football game in 2021. According to a criminal complaint filed in local court by prosecutor\u2019s, Dekkers used an account under his parents names, according to<\/a> Jeff Dubrof<\/strong> of KCCI. <\/p>\n

By using an online betting account apparently set up by his parents, Jami and Scott Dekkers<\/strong>, Dekkers effectively hid a lot of his bets from regulators. It created the appearance that the bets placed by Dekkers were actually placed by his mother, Jami.<\/p>\n

Dekkers was charged in local court on Tuesday<\/a><\/strong>, according to the Des Moines Register<\/em>.<\/p>\n

He has been charged by local prosecutors with \u201ctampering with records related to\u201d the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation\u2019s inquiry into improper gambling at Iowa State,\u00a0according to<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0Des Moines Register<\/em>. According to the complaint filed in court, Dekkers bet on a 2021 football game against\u00a0Oklahoma State<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0when he was the backup quarterback for the Cyclones.<\/p>\n

Along with that bet, he allegedly placed 25 other bets on Iowa State sporting events. The DraftKings account allegedly completed upwards of 350 sports wagers totalling more than $2,799.<\/p>\n

Dekkers, the Iowa State starting quarterback in 2022, would permanently lose eligibility under NCAA guidelines for betting.<\/p>\n

Dekkers was already apparently involved in the ongoing gambling probe, but head coach\u00a0Matt Campbell<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0was mum about it at Big 12 Media Days<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in July.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat investigation is ongoing and continues to not have a lot clarity to it,\u201d Campbell said when addressing Dekkers\u2019 status.<\/p>\n

Dekkers has played in 19 career games for the Cyclones, starting all 12 for Iowa State in 2022. He threw for 3044 yards and 19 touchdowns last season and earned all-conference honorable mention.<\/p>\n

The Iowa Gaming Commission previously said there wasn\u2019t evidence showing bets on Iowa State or Iowa games<\/h2>\n

The head of the Iowa Gaming Commission\u00a0said in May that there was no evidence to suggest<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that either\u00a0Iowa<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Iowa State\u00a0athletes bet on their own respective games. That statement came about amid investigations into both programs.<\/p>\n

Brian Ohorilko<\/strong>\u00a0told\u00a0The Action Network<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0there\u2019s no evidence to suggest there was any suspicious wagering activity on games. News broke Monday of investigations into 41 student-athletes \u2014 26 at Iowa and 15 at Iowa State \u2014 for allegations involving online sports gambling. Based on the commission\u2019s findings as of Monday night, those athletes didn\u2019t engage in suspicious wagering activity or match fixing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe review the types of wagers that come in and how suspicious they are,\u201d Ohorilko said. \u201cWe have no reason to believe that there\u2019s anything like that here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The investigation comes about a week after\u00a0a similar one<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0into\u00a0Alabama<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0baseball that actually found suspicious wagering activity and\u00a0led to the firing<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of Crimson Tide head coach\u00a0Brad Bohannon<\/strong>. That occurred after a betting halt on Alabama baseball.<\/p>\n

Ohorilko said he doesn\u2019t expect a betting halt on Iowa or Iowa State sports as a result of this investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere wasn\u2019t anything giving us pause or leading us to believe that any of these markets were compromised,\u201d Ohorilko said.<\/a><\/p>\n
