Marcus Carr<\/a><\/strong> and Timmy Allen<\/a><\/strong> didn\u2019t start their college basketball careers at Texas<\/strong><\/a>. But the two finished their time in Austin hoping to have set that standard for future Longhorn teams.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that we\u2019ll forever be proud of the foundation that we laid here,\u201d Carr said. \u201cObviously the season that we just had. But most importantly, I\u2019m just proud of, like we\u2019ve been saying, just the family and the brotherhood that we have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Allen transferred to the program after three seasons at Utah<\/strong><\/a>, where he was\u00a0All-Pac-12\u00a0First Team his junior season in 2021.<\/p>\n

He reflected on a moment he had with Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte<\/strong> soon after he moved to Austin.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing when I got here, I remember CDC said to me, he said, leave the place better than you found it,\u201d Allen said. \u201cThat\u2019s something that\u2019s always kind of stuck with me, and I hope we can say that we\u2019ve done that. Obviously we didn\u2019t accomplish what we wanted to accomplish, but the foundation we\u2019ve laid, the culture that we\u2019ve established, you\u2019ve got to have what it takes to come and play at Texas. I think we take a lot of pride in what we did.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2022-23 Texas team finished the year with a 29-9 record, a Big 12 tournament title and a run to the Elite Eight. The 29 wins is the third-most by a Longhorns team this century. The only teams to win more games also made runs to the Elite Eight.<\/p>\n

The Big 12 tournament title is also only the second one in program history.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a lot to be proud of,\u201d Timmy Allen said. \u201cWhen you think about the year we had, we came up with a goal, and we knew we had to break through barriers and set a new standard. I hope that we can say that we brought some real toughness and fight to Texas, some griminess. I just hope that carries on.\u201d<\/p>\n

There were also plenty of personal accolades for the players to revel in.<\/p>\n

Marcus Carr was named to the All-Big 12 First Team. Allen was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. Sir\u2019Jabari Rice<\/a><\/strong> was Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year. Dylan Disu<\/a><\/strong> was the Big 12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully for years down the road that continues, and Texas continues to be elite,\u201d Carr said. \u201cIt\u2019s an elite school. I\u2019m just proud of this team. I love this team. I love what we did.\u201d<\/p>\n
