INDIANAPOLIS \u2013<\/strong> The sports marketing agency Valiant Management Group<\/strong> announced an NIL<\/a> fundraising campaign in January called the \u201cOne More Year Fund<\/strong>.\u201d A fundraising website said the goal was to \u201cretain key Michigan<\/a><\/strong> football players\u201d and it specifically named four players.<\/p>\n

All four players \u2013 running back Blake Corum<\/a><\/strong>, wide receiver Cornelius Johnson<\/a><\/strong>, left guard Trevor Keegan<\/a><\/strong> and right guard Zak Zinter<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 returned to Ann Arbor for the 2023 season. <\/p>\n

Corum was a unanimous first-team All-American last season after he rushed for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns. Keegan and Zinter earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from the conference\u2019s coaches. Johnson caught 32 passes for 499 yards and a team-high six receiving touchdowns last season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great being able to get some of the other guys that might not necessarily be targets in the marketing world,\u201d Corum said Thursday at Big Ten Football Media Days. \u201cSometimes it\u2019s unfair. I want my offensive linemen to get as much marketing as they can and sometimes these businesses don\u2019t necessarily go to the offensive linemen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey go to the skill players, the guys that score the touchdowns. But without them, we ain\u2019t scoring no touchdowns. Being able to give them cheese, I think it\u2019s amazing. Like I said, NIL has been really good to us, my teammates and me. It\u2019s a bonus. It\u2019s still all about ball but who would turn down a little bit of money while you\u2019re playing a little bit of ball?\u201d<\/p>\n

Valiant Management Group said the One More Year Fund ultimately raised<\/a> more than $135,000 for NIL deals<\/a> for Michigan athletes.<\/p>\n

Valiant Management Group also runs a Michigan collective<\/a> called Champions Circle<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Corum announced<\/a> his return the day after the campaign launched, although he may have already made a decision privately.<\/p>\n

Senior defensive tackle Kris Jenkins<\/a><\/strong> said NIL opportunities didn\u2019t impact his decision to return.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s cool to see happen and continue to happen for us and a lot of other athletes,\u201d Jenkins said. \u201cReally grateful to be here playing college football at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh<\/a><\/strong> was fairly muted when On3 asked about the campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe support our collective,\u201d Harbaugh said. \u201cFormer player Jared Wangler<\/a><\/strong>, everybody that cares about Michigan. Can\u2019t wait. Have a great golf tournament coming up on July 31st. And looking forward to building, to building on that.\u201d<\/p>\n
