Patrick Mahomes<\/a><\/strong> was trying to play a round of the American Century Golf Championship<\/a> last weekend in Lake Tahoe. Then a dad tried to guilt him into signing an autograph for his son.<\/p>\n

The exchange was captured on video and shared on TikTok. Commenters, rather than trying to shame him, seemed to favor Mahomes, the Chiefs quarterback and two-time Super Bowl winner<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what happened. There was a flow of fans coming up to Patrick Mahomes, asking for his signature. But the quarterback was on the course to play golf. So if he continued to sign autographs, play would slow down. That wouldn\u2019t make for happy golfers. They were all athletes or celebrities. But they also wanted to compete for the championship. (Steph Curry won the trophy.)<\/p>\n

Mahomes could be heard telling a group of fans<\/a>: \u201cThey told me I can\u2019t do anymore (autographs) \u2026 I was signing stuff, and they said I was taking too long,\u201d.<\/p>\n

At one point, a little boy and his father approached Mahomes as the quarterback was readying for his shot. That\u2019s just a big golf faux pas. Mahomes, a father of two, said no to the kid.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t sign for everyone \u2026 can\u2019t make everybody happy,\u201d Patrick Mahomes said. The father replied: \u201cYeah, you can \u2026 you can just make one kid happy out of a hundred.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mahomes then responded with \u201cI\u2019ll make 99 sad.\u201d But the dad persisted: \u201cThat\u2019s alright \u2026 one out of 99, at least it ain\u2019t zero percent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Viewers of video say Patrick Mahomes did right thing<\/h2>\n

The people who viewed the TikTok video believed Patrick Mahomes was in the right. After all, he had a club in his hand and was consulting with his caddie. A kid wouldn\u2019t try that at Arrowhead Stadium if Mahomes was on the field or standing next to his coach, Andy Reid. It\u2019s the same concept on the golf course.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s in the middle of a tournament,\u201d wrote a poster named Orangutan<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s not even just playing a round with friends. Get a grip.\u201d<\/p>\n

A poster named SpicyBean2020 added to the discussion. \u201cHe signed a jersey for my uncle when he got diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was buried with it later that year. Imma always defend him.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the golf stuff and other fun appearances now are behind Mahomes for the rest of the year. All the Chiefs quarterbacks and rookies reported to training camp earlier this week at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Mo. Only thing on his mind appears to be a return to the Super Bowl. It\u2019s set for Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas next February.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m always confident that we have a chance to get to the Super Bowl, but I understand it\u2019s a process,\u201d Patrick Mahomes told reporters<\/a>. \u201cI understand it\u2019s not easy. I think we have a lot of motivated guys that \u2026 we want to continue to build this thing. We want to have a special group that kinda can carry out a legacy, and I think we have the right guys and now let\u2019s just go out there and do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
