{"id":10934,"date":"2023-07-18T23:39:01","date_gmt":"2023-07-19T04:39:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/demo.wztzfm.com\/wp\/?p=10934"},"modified":"2023-07-18T23:39:01","modified_gmt":"2023-07-19T04:39:01","slug":"martin-truex-jr-on-massive-turnaround-from-last-season-im-mad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/demo.wztzfm.com\/wp\/martin-truex-jr-on-massive-turnaround-from-last-season-im-mad\/","title":{"rendered":"Martin Truex Jr. on massive turnaround from last season: \u2018I\u2019m mad\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Martin Truex Jr. sits atop the NASCAR Cup Series points standings through 20 races \u2014 one year removed from going winless and missing out on the postseason. <\/p>\n<p>The 2017 Cup Series champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/pro\/news\/martin-truex-jr-dominates-crayon-301-for-third-win-of-the-season\/\">crossed the checkered line first<\/a> in Monday\u2019s Crayon 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to score his third victory of the season. Truex Jr. won in dominating fashion, leading 254 laps, including 163 of the opening 185 laps. <\/p>\n<p>The 43-year-old\u2019s reemergence goes back to an offseason in which he was \u201cmad,\u201d and had a lot of fire in him to correct what went wrong in 2022. It all started with a win in the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum in February. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"lucqo2kshwhS4yM1a3eWwVxdHnDmmSXO5Q8xYIBgylMb0Nv0aoETIcELeKgVtCU7G7KRuUH1QJJv4FNPtR92jiApT3A8Lk\">\n<p>.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MartinTruex_Jr?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MartinTruex_Jr<\/a> has been feeling it this year. <\/p>\n<p>It all started back in Los Angeles. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/B7bDXggEd1\">pic.twitter.com\/B7bDXggEd1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NASCAR (@NASCAR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NASCAR\/status\/1681423288189472769?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 18, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe Clash, amazingly enough \u2014 winning that thing was a big confidence deal,\u201d team owner Joe Gibbs <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NASCAR\/status\/1681423288189472769?s=20\">said<\/a> after Monday\u2019s race. <\/p>\n<p>Boost Truex Jr.\u2019s confidence it did, even if it wasn\u2019t an official points race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m mad,\u201d Truex Jr. said after his win in The Clash. \u201cJust have a lot of fire in my belly to go out and change what we did last year. It\u2019s huge. I mean, It\u2019s a huge confidence booster. It just reminds you that you\u2019re doing the right stuff. We were probably the worst car here last year, literally, besides maybe the guys that didn\u2019t have charters. It\u2019s a big deal. Any of these races are hard to win. All of them are hard to win. Doesn\u2019t matter if there\u2019s points or not. So we\u2019re proud of this one. It\u2019s a big deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Martin Truex Jr. chasing 2nd NASCAR Cup Series championship<\/h2>\n<p>Truex Jr. now finds himself primed to make a run for a second Cup Series championship, which would put him among the all-time greats as only 17 drivers have ever won multiple championships. He hopes to become No. 18 and add to his Hall of Fame resume. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019ve been able to do here over the years was pretty remarkable, and to not win was really getting frustrating,\u201d Truex Jr. said after the race. \u201c[Crew chief] James [Small] and I have talked about it many times and talked with [teammate] Christopher [Bell] before the race, and he said, \u2018You\u2019ve led more laps here than I\u2019ve even run here in the Cup Series.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust really awesome job by everybody. What a race car we had here today. Just proud of the whole team. Pit stops were flawless. The car was unbelievable.
