Detroit Pistons head coach Monty Williams has been very impressed by rookies Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser during the NBA Summer League. <\/p>\n
How impressed, you ask? Well, it looks like Williams just might be ready to welcome the pair into his family. Joining the ESPN<\/em> broadcast from Las Vegas Friday, the 51-year-old said he\u2019d like to \u201ctake them home\u201d and \u201carrange a marriage\u201d with his daughters. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve become a fan of Ausar and Sass,\u201d Williams said, via Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press<\/em><\/a>. \u201cTheir toughness, we saw it down the stretch. Those two guys just made play after play and played winning basketball, which is something that makes me want to take them home and arrange a marriage with my daughters.\u201d<\/p>\n Thompson, the fifth overall pick in last month\u2019s NBA Draft out of Overtime Elite, and Sasser, the 25th overall pick out of Houston, are in their coach\u2019s good graces following the Pistons\u2019 94-90 victory over the Toronto Raptors Wednesday. Thompson scored 17 points on 7-of-14 from the field with nine rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks. Sasser, meanwhile, amassed 15 points on 5-of-15 shooting with seven assists, three rebounds and two steals. <\/p>\n Thompson\u2019s prowess on both ends of the court has particularly stood out, an ability he talked about after the game. <\/p>\n \u201cWhen I\u2019m unable to score, I focus on contributing in other areas to remain on the court,\u201d Thompson said, via MLive.com<\/a><\/em>. \u201cAlthough I am confident in my offensive abilities, these games where scoring hasn\u2019t been prominent have forced me to impact the game differently.\u201d<\/p>\n Thompson and Sasser are just a couple of multiple high draft picks looking to bring the Pistons back to relevancy. They join a group which consists of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart and James Wiseman among others. <\/p>\n \u201cYou can see the talent of this group and you see the size. But what I\u2019m really impressed by is the people,\u201d Williams said last month, via ESPN<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen a press conference for a head coach and all the players show up. That\u2019s what I see: a hunger, a desire. They all want it.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you\u2019re asking about similarities to Phoenix [at the start], that was what was similar.
