World Series Bound! FSU softball team sweeps Georgia in Super Regional, advances to WCWS
The Florida State softball team is going back to Oklahoma City after a one-year absence.
The No. 3 seed Seminoles finished off a Super Regional sweep of Georgia on Friday night with a 4-2 victory, and they now will head back to OKC for the Women’s College World Series.
FSU made the championship round of the 2021 WCWS before falling in three games to Oklahoma. The Seminoles won the national championship there in 2018 and will be making their fifth appearance under head coach Lonni Alameda.
After an 8-1 trouncing of Georgia on Thursday, the Seminoles opened a 3-0 lead in the top of the third on Friday and never looked back. The big hit in the inning was a two-run double by junior Kalei Harding.
Senior pitcher Mack Leonard got the start and pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits. Freshman Makenna Reid came on and got two outs before surrendering one unearned run, then staff ace Kathryn Sanderock came in and pitched two shutout innings to end the game and series.
This year’s World Series is scheduled to run from June 1 through June 9, if necessary. The Seminoles are paired with the winner of the Oregon-Oklahoma State Super Regional.
