Wolverine TV podcast: Michigan basketball still active in transfer portal, Olivier Nkamhoua, Hunter Dickinson, more

TheWolverine.com‘s Clayton Sayfie, Chris Balas and Anthony Broome discuss the latest with Michigan Wolverines basketball‘s transfer portal pursuits, including top target Olivier Nkamhoua, a Tennessee transfer. They discuss the possibility of center Hunter Dickinson withdrawing from the portal and more.

Michigan is full on scholarships, right at the limit of 13, but that hasn’t stopped head coach Juwan Howard and Co. from pursuing more transfers. There’s still a month until the portal closes, and Michigan could still have some attrition between now and then. Nkamhoua is the target most are talking about right now, with things heating up. The power forward could be a big addition and bolster a position that was a weakness a year ago.

It would be one of a few significant additions, but Balas notes that Michigan still needs to put the pieces together and have chemistry and good fit to win.

“I think it’s a realistic option,” Balas said of Michigan potentially landing Nkamhoua. “[If Dickinson comes back and Michigan lands Nkamhoua], a lot of magazines are going to say that’s a [starting five] that could win a lot of games in the Big Ten.

“Now, you don’t know how it’s going to mesh, and you don’t know about chemistry. You guys know me — I’m old school. I’m all about chemistry. You look hockey schools like Quinnipiac and what they did with their veteran team and what you’ve seen from some of [former Michigan head coach] John Beilein‘s veteran teams — even though he was kind of a victim of guys leaving early, too, because he developed talent too well. But that was his vision.”
