Five-star 2025 Michigan defensive back target DJ Pickett scored a touchdown and helped lead Zephyrhills (Fla.) High to a 35-13 win over New Port Richey (Fla.) Gulf on Friday night.

Pickett Recruitment
Pickett is arguably the most important defensive target for Michigan in the 2025 recruiting class. The Wolverines are making him a top priority and have already hosted him for three unofficial visits.
The latest trip to Ann Arbor came in the summer as Pickett met with head coach Jim Harbaugh, worked out with co-defensive coordinator and area recruiter Steve Clinkscale and got another in-depth look at the program.
While Pickett has not released a top schools list, it’s clear Michigan is a strong contender early on in his recruitment.
“Michigan is a special place,” Pickett said. “Every time I go up there, it feels like home. I have family up there. My grandma lives maybe an hour away. I have chemistry with the coaches. I just love Michigan a lot.”
Along with Michigan, Pickett has offers in hand from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oregon, Miami, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M and a number of other major programs.
At 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, Pickett is ranked as the No. 1 safety and No. 8 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect in the state of Florida for next cycle.
Michigan has two verbal commitments in its 2025 recruiting class in Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Chris Ewald and four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka. The class is currently ranked No. 17 nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings.
