Wofford transfer BJ Mack discusses his final 5 schools, sets visits
Wofford graduate transfer BJ Mack tells On3 he’s down to five schools: Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, LSU, and South Carolina.
The 6-foot-8, 245-pound power forward previously considered the likes of Florida, Butler, Xavier, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Michigan. Mack averaged 16.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists this season for Wofford, who finished the season 17-16. He also shot 49.2-percent from the field on the year. He began his college career at South Florida, where he spent one season, before playing the last three years with the Terriers.
BJ Mack discussed each of the five schools in an exclusive interview with On3.
Mack breaks down his final five
Alabama: “Coach (Nate) Oats and his staff have been at the top of SEC the past 3 out of 4 years now and he has produced pros that have been in my position. I have a familiarity there at Bama with my old teammate Nick Pringle, who I played at Wofford with and he has said nothing but great things about his experience.”
Arkansas: “Coach (Eric) Musselman and his staff and the fans have shown me nothing but love. They made it to the Sweet 16 and I feel that I can be the piece next year to be able to get them over the hump. They have a history of incoming transfers and being able to get them to where their dream goal is.”
Iowa: “Coach (Fran) McCaffery and his staff have been following me since high school. I grew up playing against Patrick (McCaffery) in AAU so I have a great relationship with him. Iowa has put people in my position in the NBA and they have a similar system to Wofford.”
LSU: “Coach (Matt) McMahon and his staff have been recruiting me since I was in high school when the staff was at Murray State. They are looking for me to be able to come in and be an impact player and showcase my leadership with the guys on the team since I am a experienced player. He has a plan to be back in the tournament and has a record of getting there. There is also familiarity there because one of my CP3 boys is there, Cam Hayes, and has spoke highly of their coaching staff.”
South Carolina: “Coach (Lamont) Paris and his staff were the first school to contact me when I entered the portal. He, his staff and the fan base have shown nothing but love to me. Coach Paris played against me for two years at Chattanooga and he knows my game in and out from playing against me. Also, South Carolina is close to home and who wouldn’t want to play close to home.”
