Winners and Losers: Another setback for Kansas State

KSO covers the biggest winners and losers in the world of Kansas State and college athletics.

Winners

1.) Fans: No, it was not a good week to follow Kansas State football. They fell to Oklahoma State on Friday evening. However, LeBron James did reveal that Bronny James does indeed plan to play this season after a health scare. The Wildcats face James and USC in Las Vegas at the beginning of November in the season opener.
2.) UNC: Getting Tez Walker back is a big deal for Mack Brown and North Carolina.
3.) Birthdays: October 7 was the birthday for K-State head coach Jerome Tang and legendary football boss Bill Snyder.
4.) Big Ten: I still have doubts about trusting the teams in the Big Ten, but the results speak for themselves. Not only are all of Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State in the top 5, but future conference members USC, Oregon and Washington are in the top 10 as well.
5.) Venables: It was a great week for the former Kansas State player and coach. Brent Venables and Oklahoma defeated Texas at the Cotton Bowl.

Losers

1.) Kansas State: That was an uninspired performance from K-State. Even with it, they somehow still had multiple chances to tie it at the finish and couldn’t capitalize. The Wildcats sit with two losses through five games.

2.) Receivers: The third catch from the Kansas State position group wasn’t recorded on Friday until nearly the end of the third quarter.

3.) Mario: Miami head coach Mario Cristobal had the coaching blunder of the year and perhaps the decade when he chose to run a play instead of ending the game by taking a knee. Instead, the Hurricanes fumbled and Georgia Tech quickly scored for the win.

4.) Turnover bug: Will Howard has thrown seven interceptions already this year. His three in Stillwater was not equaled by Oklahoma State, either. The Cowboys didn’t cough it up at all.

5.) Wildcats: Just as problematic for K-State is that Kansas is ranked and have an argument as the third best team in the Big 12 and Texas Tech is now feeling good about themselves after convincing wins over Houston and Baylor. Like the Wildcats saw in Stillwater, the night game in Lubbock will be a blackout.
