Wiltfong Whiparound: QB dominoes, new RPM picks, intel on blue-chip prospects

News, notes and buzz from the recruiting trail.

The pulse on five-star Julian Lewis

Carrollton (Ga.) High five-star quarterback and USC commit Julian Lewis added an official visit to Indiana for the weekend of May 31, replacing a previously scheduled trip to Georgia.

The Bulldogs are no longer in the equation for a quarterback in the 2025 class after landing four-star Ryan Montgomery.

This will be Lewis’s second visit to Indiana this calendar year. The relationship with quarterbacks coach Tino Sunseri has the Hoosiers in the mix. Lewis met Sunseri while camping at Florida State when he was eight-years old. At the time Sunseri was the Quality Control Assistant in Tallahassee. He held the same position at Tennessee in 2018 and then went to Alabama in 2019-2020 where the relationship with the Lewis family continued. In fact the bond is so strong, I believe if Sunseri was still at Alabama, Lewis would be committed to the Crimson Tide right now.

It’s going to be tough for Sunseri and the Hoosiers to flip Lewis, but they’re in the game. In addition to the relationship with Sunseri, the Lewis family likes the trajectory of the Hoosiers program because of new head coach Curt Cignetti’s track record.

I still view Auburn as the biggest threat to flip Lewis from USC. There is an opportunity to compete for the starting job as a true freshman, the Lewis family loves the way the Tigers are recruiting the wide receiver position, and they’re excited about what Hugh Freeze has done offensively throughout his his career. The family visited a couple times during the spring. There is confidence around The Plains they will ultimately land Lewis.

With that being written, you can’t sleep on Colorado with them set to get a third visit this calendar year. The Buffaloes offer an opportunity to start day one in Boulder. Lewis has also enjoyed his talks with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.

After Indiana, Lewis will take his official to USC on June 7, Auburn on June 14 and Colorado on June 21.

The On3 Industry Rankings tab Lewis as the No. 2 quarterback in the country and No. 9 prospect overall. Lewis was the Peach State Gatorade Player of the Year this past fall and was one of three finalists for the National Player of the Year award.

A reclassification from the 2026 class, he has been named the MaxPreps Freshman and Sophomore of the Year.

As a sophomore, Lewis threw for 3,094 yards and 48 scores, making good on more than 66 percent of his attempts. He took Carrollton to the state title game as a freshman in the Peach State’s largest class, while completing more than 65% of his passes for 4,118 yards and 48 touchdowns.

New RPM Forecasts

QB to UCLA

UCLA will host Long Beach (Calif.) Warren On300 quarterback Madden Iamaleava for an official visit this weekend and several sources indicate the Bruins are the one to beat. First-year head coach DeShaun Foster and his staff are looking to sign the program’s first Top 25 class since 2018 and securing a pledge from the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Iamaleava would be massive in those efforts.

Iamaleava ranks as the On3 Industry’s No. 12 quarterback and No. 135 prospect overall. As a junior he carved up defenses to the tune of 3,626 yards and 43 touchdowns to just four interceptions, completing 63 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 305 yards and three scores.

More on Iamaleava and the Bruins here from colleague Chad Simmons.

LB to Texas A&M

Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Christian Academy On300 linebacker Max Granville has already taken one official visit to Baylor and has upcoming trips locked in with Penn State (May 31), USC (June 7), Texas A&M (June 14) and Oklahoma (June 21).

Heading into the rest of those trips, sources indicate the Aggies are the one to beat and my On3 RPM reflects that.

Time spent this spring around the new staff, the scheme and game environment in College Station are a few of the things that excited Granville who lives just over an hour away from campus.

The Aggies have On3’s No. 12 ranked recruiting class.

OL to Ohio State

Fresh off his visit to Ohio State this weekend, Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley On3 Industry four-star offensive lineman Henry Fenuku said that the Buckeyes are setting the bar in his recruitment. Talking to another source at the high school, they indicated the same. With that, I’ve logged an RPM in favor of the Buckeyes. OSU currently has On3’s No. 1 ranked recruiting class.

Five-star WR Kaliq Lockett changes official visits up

Sachse (Texas) High five-star receiver Kaliq Lockett has added Texas A&M to the official visit itinerary, replacing the Aggies with a previously scheduled trip to USC the weekend of June 7.

“A&M has put a lot of work in,” Lockett’s father Kobi said. “They recruit the families. It was no way with Kaliq’s ties there with my mother-in-law once working there we were going to leave A&M off the list. The relationship really is the difference.”

Texas A&M is battling LSU (May 31 visit), Florida State (June 14 visit) and Texas (June 21) visit. A decision isn’t expected until August.

News and notes

Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis On300 cornerback Mark Zackery IV will announce his college decision on May 25. The finalists are Cincinnati, Florida, Michigan and Notre Dame. I still like my RPM in favor of the Irish. Head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff have On3’s No. 5 ranked class.

Speaking of the Irish, hearing they’re still at or near the top of the list for Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman On300 receiver Derek Meadows, one of the top overall targets on the board for ND. A source says the Irish and Alabama are in the best shape. His official visit schedule starts with South Carolina (May 31), then Georgia (June 7), then the Irish (June 14) and the Crimson Tide (June 21).

Bixby (Okla.) High On300 offensive tackle Broderick Shull says Nebraska is running even with Auburn following a second trip to Lincoln over the weekend in the last month.
