Will Wilson’s commitment sets a fantastic foundation for ’25 class

Will Wilson visited NC State for the fourth time June 17. One week later, he made things official and committed to the Wolfpack, starting off the 2025 recruiting class with a top-ranked quarterback on the program’s board.
Building some positive momentum early in a recruiting is more important than ever. Doing so with a priority quarterback who held offers from South Carolina, TCU, Penn State and others is even better and puts NC State in a position to build what could be a special class.
Look at the Gamecocks’ 2024 class.
They secured a commitment from four-star quarterback Dante Reno early in the cycle, and that turned into a snowball of good news for South Carolina— the No. 11 team in On3’s Team recruiting rankings.
Wilson joining the class certainly does not guarantee that level of success for NC State, but his commitment creates a lot of positive early buzz around the program on the trail with his classmates. It could even help with offensive recruiting in the 2024 cycle. With Cedrick Bailey Jr. also committed in that class, other potential recruits see that NC State is set to continue one of the best quarterback traditions in the country.
So, who are a few prospects to watch in the 2025 class?
Four-star tight end Gus RitcheyFour-star running back Justin BakerThree-star wide receiver Jerel BolderThree-star running back Jeffrey OvertonThree-star wide receiver Arrion ConcepcionFour-star defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell Four-star wide receiver Jordan Young Three-star cornerback Tyler Redmond
This group of prospects is already expressing serious interest in the Wolfpack, and having a quarterback committed to help recruit them over the next 18 month will absolutely help.
Ritchey visited NC State recently, and he is also hoping to wrap up his recruitment fairly quickly. He will drop a top-seven this summer and hopes to commit after his junior season. If the Pack could secure both his and Wilson’s recruitment going into 2024, that would obviously be huge.
Even though Wilson is still years away from hitting the field at Carter-Finley Stadium, his commitment is worth getting very excited over. This is the type of commitment top programs secure early in the cycle, and it further reaffirms quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper’s recruiting ability.
Scouting NC State quarterback commit Will Wilson
Wilson is a really talented passer who has the size and ability to make plays on the ground. I saw him live once this spring during an Under Armour camp, and he has some truly impressive arm strength. He found receivers on deep routes with ease, and the ball flies out of his hand.
The quarterback overthrew prospects at times during that camp, but it is always tough to build chemistry with receivers within one afternoon at camp. The talent and skill is clearly there for the quarterback from South Carolina. It is also worth noting that he is a coach’s son, and he weighed in at 215 pounds during NC State’s camp. He checked in at 6-0 5/8 tall and has 9 5/8-inch hands, which are larger than 18 NFL starting quarterbacks going into the 2022 season.
