Will Shipley sees Cade Klubnik growing throughout season
Clemson running back Will Shipley noticed a lot of growth in Cade Klubnik throughout the course of the season.
Klubnik was thrust into the lineup last season but made some strides this year despite the up and down regular season for the Tigers. Shipley, who is one of the offensive stars in the ACC, was glad to see it in his teammate.
Going into a big game against Wake Forest, Klubnik will need to keep it up.
“Just as you mentioned, the big plays that he’s making, I think he’s just learning from every opportunity and every mistake that he’s made,” Shipley said. “He’s learned from it and you know, that’s when the game truly slows down is when you’re able to to view it as you’re just going out there and it being just like the practice field, and that’s kind of the shift that I’ve seen and in Cade’s mind, just his his ability to manage the game and the plays that he’s making.”
Shipley gave examples of Klubnik making small tweaks in order to get better week to week.
“I mean, some of the times where he had to do tuck and run on third down, kept his eyes up, hit Tyler Brown downfield a couple of times, I mean, those are, you know, plays that that can win you a football game, and he’s starting to make them,” Shipley said.
“He’s starting to kind of just blossom and then just continuing to get better every week, which is exactly what we thought would happen with Cade. But yeah, he’s never turned down an opportunity to learn from a mistake. You know, to even learn from a success or a you know, good play. There’s always things that he’s tweaking, and always trying to get better, which is why he’s going to be great for sure.”
In five games this season, Klubnik has 1,239 yards, 11 touchdowns, two interceptions and a 65.4% completion percentage.
As a member of the Class of 2022, Klubnik was a five-star recruit out of Austin (Texas) Westlake, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 4 overall prospect in the state, the No. 1 quarterback in the class and the No. 18 overall prospect in the class.
Clemson hosts Wake Forest in an ACC clash Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
