Will Levis reveals his plan for development ahead of training camp

Will Levis reveals his plan for development ahead of training camp

From dominating rookie minicamp to struggling in his first real practice, Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis is developing at the same rate as any rookie would through his first couple of months in the NFL.

With a break in the offseason action coming soon, the Titans QB isn’t planning on taking any vacation days in preparation for his rookie season.

“The rookies had the privilege of being here for two extra weeks even though we can’t be out here with coaches,” Levis said during OTAs. “We make sure we have a script for at least a few days each week. We come out here, throw with them.

“Then, when we’re away from everybody, I don’t know if I’ll be able to be in the vicinity of any of the guys on the team for that period but I’ll be sure to put the work in to be ready once we get back for training camp.”

Levis was the most polarizing player in this year’s NFL Draft, and now that he’s on a team that has the potential to make the playoffs, there are no more excuses for Levis to underperform on the field.

During his final season at Kentucky, his stats were down across the board between his junior and senior campaigns, but the difference in Levis’s stats comes from the talent around him, particularly on his offensive line. Levis was sacked 36 times in 2022, which ranked Kentucky’s OL No. 128 out of 131 in the FBS. He was sacked 11.80 percent of the times he dropped back in the pocket last season.

Levis had little-to-no help out wide, and was without his star running back until halfway through the season. By the time Kentucky got back to full strength everywhere else, the injuries had already piled up.

This led to Levis falling from being a top-three overall draft choice to being left out of the first round altogether. The Titans felt like they had something with Levis, and promptly traded up to select the former Wildcat with the second pick of the second round.

Whether he ends up playing during the regular season remains unseen, but Levis will likely be the Titans’ primary preseason quarterback. He’ll get his shot on Aug. 12 when Tennessee travels to Chicago to take on the Bears.

His first apperance inside Nissan Stadium won’t be until the preseason’s Week 3 (Aug. 25) against the New England Patriots.
