Why was Koby Brea holding a stranger’s baby? “The best dad moment ever.”

Before Kentucky Basketball tips off at Georgia later this evening, KSR learned how Koby Brea ended up with a baby in his arms after Saturday’s win over Florida. In case you missed it, Brea was seen cradling an infant during Mark Pope‘s postgame radio show in Rupp Arena following Brea’s career day against the sixth-ranked Gators. Brea went 7-for-9 from 3, then babysat after the win.

On Tuesday, the father of the baby, Clay, called Kentucky Sports Radio to explain how his child ended up in the arms of Kentucky’s sharpshooter on Cawood’s Court.

“It was my son’s first UK game, and he’s a little guy, so I thought it would be cool to get a picture with Coach Pope,” Clay explained. “So, Koby (Brea) was standing right next to me, and I said, ‘Hey, man, what are the chances you could take my son Cade over and get a picture with Coach Pope?’”

Brea smiled and happily reached out for the baby to fulfill the unique request as Clay’s wife watched on, embarrassed, Clay noted.

He also made it clear to KSR that he didn’t force his infant onto Brea. “I wasn’t like, hey man, here’s my baby, I’m going to the bathroom and to get a drink.”

Clay, whose dad took him to meet Tubby Smith when he was a kid, added, “It was the best dad moment ever.”

Baby Cade did not get Koby Brea sick

Koby Brea was mysteriously listed on UK’s availability report with a questionable tag for tonight’s game. Some of the fan reaction to the surprising news wondered if Brea could be sick, so Clay used his time on the KSR airwaves to clear baby Cade’s name amidst internet speculation about Brea’s health. He said, “None of us are sick, and Cade is perfectly fine; he’s not sick at all. He’s smiling and everything.”

The final availability report will be released 90 minutes before tip-off.
