Why USC Remains a Strong Option for 5-Star Georgia WR Mike Matthews
Lilburn (GA) Parkview 5-Star Wide Receiver Mike Matthews told WeAreSC at the Atlanta Under Armour Next Camp in March that he’ll take a second visit at some point. At the time there was a possibility he’d head back to Los Angeles during Spring Practices.
Although that second unofficial visit never developed, he has set a USC official visit for June 17-19. He shared why USC was a definite official visit for him.
“I like the relationships I have out there,” said Matthews. “It’s very different from where we are in this region with it being on the other side of the country. I feel like I’ll like the school and the campus so I’d like to experience that.”
Last July Matthews took his first visit to USC and planned to return since then.
“I’ve been talking to USC a lot since I visited last summer,” said Matthews. “I mostly talk to Coach (Luke) Huard. When I visited in the Summer I was able to talk to the entire staff, including Coach (Lincoln) Riley. So I’ve pretty much talked to everybody.
“So I always knew it was a good school for me. My parents also love it, which is a big part of it. And it’s in California, who wouldn’t want to go to Cali?”
Why USC’s Remained a Top Option
“Lincoln Riley came from Oklahoma and he’s always had a really explosive offense,” Matthews said. “He brought that to USC. And I really like Coach (Luke) Huard, too. It’s across the country, but it’s a different vibe out there. They have something to them that makes me want to be better.”
Why USC Can be a Factor
“I knew from my very first that visit that there was something different there,” Matthews said. “That’s why I locked them in for the official visit so early. I already know what I’m getting into when I go back and I’m just really excited to be there again.”
Lincoln Riley’s Offense
“Along with that explosiveness, they’re a pass-first team and I know I’ll get the ball,” said Matthews.
Three Other Official Visits Set
Along with USC, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia are set for official visits from Matthews.
