‘Who wants it more?’ Competition fierce on Ole Miss football practice fields
The competition is getting fierce on the Ole Miss preseason practice fields.
The Rebels, who are in their third week of camp, open against Furman in less than 20 days.
Veteran wide receiver Jordan Watkins has been in a black, non-contact jersey every session so far. Monday — with the Rebels in shorts and shoulder pads — was no different. However, encouragingly, Watkins was a full participant in individual drills and cutting loose in and out of his breaks.
Second-year wide receiver Cayden Lee has impressed in stepping into the starting lineup with Watkins first absent and now only limited. Ole Miss was the only team in college football last season to produce three wideouts (Watkins included) with 700 or more receiving yards.
The rest of the Ole Miss first-team offense was as follows: Jaxson Dart (QB), Tre Harris (WR), Lee, Ayden Williams (WR), Caden Prieskorn (TE), Ulysses Bentley, IV/Henry Parrish, Jr. (RB), Diego Pounds (LT), LG, Gerquan Scott (C), Nate Kalepo (RG) and Preston Cushman (RT).
“It makes you want it more,” Alabama transfer corner Trey Amos said of going against Harris each day. “Like, who wants it more? The sense of urgency. Every play going against Tre Harris, doing his thing out there every single practice. Me and him.”
The Ole Miss Spirit’s Bruce Newman was out on the fields Monday. He provided the included photos.
