Who could be next to commit to the Florida Gators?

For the Florida Gators, the recruiting run that began in mid-June hasn’t stopped — or even slowed. The Gators on Tuesday night picked up commitment No. 21 from 4-star receiver Tawaski Abrams of Fort Myers (Fla.) Dunbar High and now have the No. 3 recruiting class in the country (full rankings HERE)
Who could be next to jump in the boat?
Here are a few notable contenders to be Florida’s next commit …
*4-star DL D’antre Robinson, Orlando Jones
Ratings/Rankings (On3 Industry): 3-star/No. 35 defensive lineman in the country.
Ratings/Rankings (On3): 4-star/No. 26 defensive lineman in the country.
Measurables: 6-foot-3.5, 315 pounds.
RPM favors: Texas (94%) over Florida (1.6%)
Commitment date: Thursday (Time TBD) via Twitter.
The 411: With Robinson’s commitment day nearing, this one has tightened up significantly thanks to a late surge by the Gators. In fact, there is a great deal of optimism in Gainesville right now. According to Robinson, who spoke with Gators Online on Tuesday, Florida is giving him a lot to think about right now. He grew up a Gators fan. Additionally, relationships and proximity to home aren’t hurting Florida’s chances. Robinson said a final decision would come Wednesday. Meanwhile, confidence continues to run high in Longhorn land, too. With this one coming down to the wire, it still could go either way despite the Longhorn’s significant advantage in the RPM. Can Florida overtake Texas here?
*3-star OL Ory Williams, San Marcos (Texas)
Ratings/Rankings (On3 Industry): 3-star/No. 31 offensive tackle in the country.
Ratings/Rankings (On3): 3-star/No. 37 offensive tackle in the country.
Measurables: 6-foot-7, 285 pounds.
RPM favors: LSU (65.7%) over Texas (31.3%). Florida is at less than 1% at this time.
Commitment date: TBD.
The 411: Williams is another recruit we think the Gators have a much greater chance of landing than the RPM suggests. LSU is the main competition. The Tigers apparently impressed Williams on his June official visit and are said to be pressing hard. Then you have Texas, which continues to recruit Williams and hopes to get him on campus for a fall official visit. But Florida is a real dark horse here and the Gators will host Williams on July 29 for their Grill in the Ville recruiting event. That is not insignificant and it sounds like there is growing optimism in Gator Country with this recruitment. Florida might only take one more high school offensive lineman and Williams, who officially visited the Gators in June, is believed to be near the top of the wishlist.

The Gators also are contenting with 3 in-state stars
Three others to track …
–Zay Mincey, CB, Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland: The 4-star recruit probably is Florida’s top corner target. It’s unclear where he will be July 29, but as of now the Gators expect him to visit. Alabama, perhaps the other top contender, has a recruiting event the same day and he potentially could show up for that. Florida is the RPM favorite. He has said he’s in no hurry to commit. Florida is trying to change his mind.
–LJ McCray, DL, Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland: Florida has hoped to get McCray in town July 29, but he told On3 on Tuesday he will be at Georgia that day. It seems to be a battle between these two schools, with FSU also in the mix. McCray has said he won’t announce a decision until after a fall official visit to FSU. Some Florida commits, however, have been optimistic about a decision coming prior to that.
–Jamari Howard, CB, Miami (Fla.) Central: The former Michigan State commit’s recruitment has been all over the map. And, a couple previous trips to Gainesville were cancelled. Now, Howard says he’ll be at Florida on July 29. With spots running out, might he be someone who could join the class if Billy Napier and secondary coach Corey Raymond push next weekend? FSU and Miami also are in the mix.
