Who could be Auburn’s next commitment?

Who could be Auburn’s next commitment?

Auburn football recruiting is heating up in July. The Tigers landed D’Angelo Barber, a linebacker from Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville, on the 4th. Then, Pike Road (Ala.) defensive lineman Malik Blocton jumped in the boat. Now, Jalyn Crawford, a 4-star corner from Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview will be a Tiger, too.

When might the Tigers add more players to the fold? Probably soon.. Things are moving quickly.

With that in mind, here are some candidates to be Auburn’s next commitment …

LB – Demarcus Riddick, Clanton (Ala.) Chilton County

RANKING: No. 31 overall, No. 3 LB, No. 4 in Alabama
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-2 210
THE 411: Riddick will make a final decision on July 26 between Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia where he is currently committed. The latest intel suggests that Georgia could be running third ahead of his decision.

Alabama has been perceived as the leader for some time, but Auburn has come roaring back. In fact, Auburn Live expects Riddick to take part in the Big Cat Weekend festivities. That will take place three days after he makes a final decision.

This one is very interesting right now with Auburn gaining some momentum and Alabama batting to keep Auburn out of it.

OT – Reese Baker, Huntsville (Ala.) Madison Academy

RANKING: Unranked
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-5 260
THE 411: Baker camped with Auburn during its first Elite Camp. Coaches were impressed with how it went, Baker was impressed with how it went and the Tigers are the clear frontrunner.

Auburn Live has reported a few times that there was probably a rush to get Baker in the class. Why? Auburn sees true value in Baker and wants to get ahead of the game should he has another stellar season as a senior. Baker and his camp seem to want to take things slow and see how it plays out. Baker is not yet confirmed, but might be visiting Auburn for Big Cat Weekend. If so, there could be a resolution during the event. That will be something to monitor.

WR – Perry Thompson, Foley (Ala.)

RANKING: No. 32 overall, No. 9 WR , No. 4 in Alabama
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-3 205
THE 411: Thompson makes his second appearance on the list. The Alabama wide receiver commit told Auburn Live a final decision was coming sometime before his senior season.

He has since announced he will be at Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend on July 29. That event is taking place the same day as an Alabama cookout. Thompson could have a final decision between the schools before July is over. If that is the case, him being on campus for Big Cat Weekend is interesting.

OL – Deandre Carter, Santa Ana (Cali.) Mater Dei

RANKING: No. 146 overall, No. 9 IOL, No. 16 in California
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-3.5 340
THE 411:  As of right now, there is no confirmation that Carter will be at Big Cat Weekend, but Auburn is working to get him there.

If the Tigers are able to get him back to campus, there is a chance he could leave committed or at least thinking harder about it. Auburn is absolutely one of the top schools for Carter and continues to recruit him as a No. 1 priority. Texas, USC, and Michigan State seem to be the main competition.

ATH – Malcolm Simmons, Alexander City (Ala.) Benjamin Russell

RANKING: No. 146 overall, No. 9 IOL, No. 16 in California
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-3.5 340
THE 411: While it has not been made yet, I am contemplating putting in an Auburn prediction for Simmons.

Simmons opened the eyes of several staffers at Auburn when he attended camp. Since then, the Tigers have considered pushing for him. I think Auburn would be the team to beat should that happen. With an upcoming Big Cat Weekend visit, it cannot be ruled out that the Tigers make a push for him while there.

LB – Wyatt Simmons, Searcy (Ark.) Harding Academy

RANKING: No. 541 overall, No. 61 LB, No. 6 in Arkansas
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-3 215
THE 411: Simmons has taken his official visits to Arkansas, Clemson and Auburn. Auburn feels confidence in this one, but Clemson is firmly in the picture as well.

Since those visits, Simmons has already been back to Auburn. The relationship Simmons and his dad have with Josh Aldridge, Auburn’s linebacker coach could win out here. The Tigers appear to have the edge for now.

He could commit at any time.

OL – Jameson Riggs, Hiram (Ga.)

RANKING: No. 476 overall, No. 34 IOL, No. 54 in Georgia
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-4.5 300
THE 411: Riggs officially visited Auburn, Clemson, and Georgia Tech. While he does not have a final decision date set, he is probably getting close.

Auburn and Georgia Tech appear to have risen to the top of his list with the Jackets possibly moving slightly ahead, but it is not over. Auburn remains in this battle despite Riggs’ father being a graduate of Georgia Tech.

RB – Alvin Henderson, Elba (Ala.)

RANKING: (2025) No. 86 overall, No. 7 RB, No. 9 in Alabama
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5-9 185
THE 411: Henderson had been living on Auburn’s campus during camp week. He was in town for a basketball camp, but when he wasn’t busy with that, he was with Auburn running back coach Cadillac Williams and Tigers’ coach Hugh Freeze.

There are now two predictions in for him to commit to Auburn and the Tigers are trending heavily. Might he make a commitment in the near future? It cannot be ruled out
