Where the Michigan State top targets fall in the initial 2027 On3 top 100
As class of 2027 recruits prepare to enter their respective sophomore seasons this fall, On3 has dropped the first prospect rankings of the cycle. In this article we take a look at the early Spartan 2027 targets and where they fall in the initial rankings.
In-state prospects in the top 100
–No. 4 overall, No. 2 EDGE, No. 1 in Michigan: Recarder Kitchen:
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound sophomore defensive end, Recarder Kitchen, of Muskegon (Mich.) High School slots in as the top player in the state for the cycle, finding himself in prime position to be one of the first five-stars in the class as the No. 4 overall player.
Kitchen was offered by Michigan State during a visit to campus in the summer. His other offers include Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Iowa State, Indiana, Cincinnati, and more. Michigan State was early, as Kitchen will likely continue to earn a high multitude of power four offers this fall.
The defensive end started 11 games for Muskegon as a freshman, logging over 50 tackles, along with 7 and a half sacks, and five forced fumbles. He is also credited for 38 quarterback pressures in his freshman season.
–No. 22 overall, No. 4 wide receiver, No. 2 in Michigan: Dakota Guerrant:
Michigan State and the new Spartan staff led by Jonathan Smith have worked quickly to make up ground for the talented in-state wide receiver out of Harper Woods High School. Guerrant has grown close bonds with the staff at Michigan early, as former high school teammate Jacob Oden is now entering his freshman year the Wolverines. Michigan State will look to continue to build some momentum with Guerrant as he enters his sophomore season this fall.
Guerrant (6-1, 175) impressed SpartanMag.com at several in-person 7v7 events in the summer. He holds other offers from Ohio State, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Penn State, and others.
-No. 48 overall, No. 2 tight end, No. 3 in Michigan: Anthony Cartwright:
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound tight end slots in as the No. 3 recruit in Michigan, as Cartwright kicks off his sophomore season with Detroit Country Day. The tight end holds a strong offer list, including Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Pittsburgh, Mississippi, and more.
Cartwright is a Spartan legacy, as his father played basketball at Michigan State as a walk-on in the 1990s. The four-star tells SpartanMag.com he will be at the Spartan home opener, as Michigan State holds some early momentum.
-No. 63 overall, No. 5 tight end, No. 4 in Michigan: Holden Niemi:
The in-state crop of tight ends will be strong again in 2027 as Dexter High School tight end Holden Niemi also finds himself in the On3 top 100. Niemi (6-4, 210) has the size and frame already as just a high school sophomore, as he looks to take another big leap on the field this fall.
The tight end holds offers from Michigan, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and more. Michigan State has not offered yet.

-No. 41 overall, No. 7 athlete, No. 1 in Indiana: Monshun Sales:
Sales (6-3, 180), of Indianapolis Lawerence North High School was offered by Michigan State back in May. He made two trips to East Lansing, the first back in January, with the second coming for spring practice.
The receiver holds other offers from Mississippi, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisville, and more.
-No. 93 overall, No. 7 linebacker, No. 1 in Washington: Liufau Loumoli:
Michigan State played host to Loumoli this summer as the linebacker checks in as a four-star and the top recruit in Washington. Loumoli (6-1, 201) holds other offers from Ohio State, Washington, Michigan, Miami, USC, Oregon, Penn State, and more.
