Where does Penn State rank in 2024 Team Rankings following Tyseer Denmark’s commitment?

Wednesday was an important day for Penn State head coach James Franklin and his staff. In addition to hosting one of its final prospect camps of the summer, the Nittany Lions also picked up a coveted commitment yesterday evening in four-star wide receiver Tyseer Denmark.
A native of Philadelphia, Denmark is considered one of the top 50 wide receivers in the nation for the Class of 2024. In the region, only Virginia’s Keylen Adams ranks higher. His addition also gives Penn State the top three players in Pennsylvania now, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. Running back Quinton Martin, who camped at Penn State Wednesday, is the top-ranked player in the state, while offensive lineman Cooper Cousins is No. 2.
The addition of Denmark also had a major impact in On3’s 2024 Team Recruiting Rankings, too, as Penn State officially climbed back into the Top 10 nationally at No. 10 overall. The Nittany Lions’ score jumped from 90.600 up to 90.822, surpassing Tennessee (90.745).
Understanding On3’s Team Rankings
For those unfamiliar with On3’s Team Rankings, there are two major differences compared to other sites that you need to know.
1) We use the Industry Rankings, which uses all four major recruiting sites – On3, 247, Rivals and ESPN – to find a commutative score. It’s not based on just On3’s rankings.
2) On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings solve the problem of varying class sizes during the recruiting cycle by totaling the highest-rated commitments for each team based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power 5 schools. Currently, that average total is 11 players.
So, if you’re wondering why Penn State is lower at On3 when compared to 247 (No. 6) and Rivals (No. 7), it’s because we’re aiming to project where the Nittany Lions will truly finish come National Signing Day, not where they rank at this moment. Simply having more commitments than most other schools is why they rank higher elsewhere.

Scouting the Big Ten
Although Penn State moved up nationally, they’ve actually fallen to fourth in the Big Ten.
Ohio State has the top-ranked class still and sits at No. 3 overall nationally. The Buckeyes hold two five-star commitments and 10 four-stars for an average score of 93.007. Michigan is two spots behind them nationally at No. 5 overall. The Wolverines have 22 commitments total, including 11 four-star players. They have an overall score of 91.935 currently.
However, USC has been on a roll in June, adding nine of its 12 overall commitments since June 4. The Trojans also hold nine four-star commitments, moving them all the way up to No. 6 nationally with a score of 91.400.
But after Penn State, there’s a significant gap to the rest of the Big Ten. The only other programs within the Top 30 currently are Wisconsin (No. 25), Iowa (No. 26) and Minnesota (No. 28).
