What’s next? Michigan State 2024 offensive line recruiting

Michigan State offensive tackle target Nathan Roy committed to Big Ten foe Minnesota over the weekend. The four-star choose PJ Fleck and the Gophers over UCLA and the Spartans. Roy released a top three list with Michigan State, UCLA and Minnesota earlier this spring.

The Bruins seemed to hold the upper-hand in Roy’s recruitment, with Roy’s older brother Benjamin Roy, Jr. going into his third year at UCLA this fall.

Led by assistant head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic, the Spartans were firmly in the mix for Roy heading into official visits. The four-star star tackle visited East Lansing last weekend before committing to Minnesota this past weekend.

Michigan State currently holds pledges from two offensive linemen in its 2024 class – Mt. Pleasant (Mich.) High School three-star Andrew Dennis and Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy three-star Logan Bennett.

Dennis continues to grow, closing in on 6-foot-5, and likely projects at offensive tackle at the college level. Bennett, who measures in at 6-foot-5, 310-pounds, will likely slide inside once he arrives in East Lansing.

SpartanMag.com takes a closer look at the other offensive linemen Michigan State is targeting to join their 2024 recruiting class.

Four-star OL DeAndre Carter, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei

Carter is a versatile offensive lineman who starts at left tackle for national high school powerhouse Mater Dei. Listed at 6-foot-3.5, 340-pounds, Carter has the ability to play any position on the offensive line at the college level. The four-star is likely viewed as a tackle by Kapilovic and the Michigan State staff.

Competition for Carter is fierce. Auburn received an official visit on June 16. The Spartans are up next and will host Carter on June 23-25 for an official visit. Texas will host the four-star on September 29. The fourth contender in the Carter sweepstakes is in-state USC. The Trojans currently hold the best odds to land Carter, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Three-star OT Mercer Luniewski, Cincinnati (Ohio) Hills Christian Academy

Arguably the most underrated offensive tackle in his class, Luniewski has out-performed many of Ohio’s talented offensive line recruits at camps and showcases this year. The three-star competed with Ohio State and Michigan commits to earn a share of the MVP honors at Under Armour’s camp in Columbus, Ohio, this spring.

The 6-foot-5.5, 310-pound recruit would likely be the first sure-fire tackle in the Spartans’ 2024 recruiting class.

Luniewski will join his twin brother, Charlton, and Carter this weekend (June 23-25) for an official visit at Michigan State. The three-star is currently visiting in-state Cincinnati from June 19-21. Though the Bearcats joined the race for the Luniewski twins late, they are a factor in the twins’ recruitment. Michigan State will have to overcome hometown appeal to keep their lead with the twins.

Three-star OL Charlton Luniewski, Cincinnati (Ohio) Hills Christian Academy

Charlton is not as refined as his twin brother. The 6-foot-4.5, 285-pound lineman will likely play on the interior at the next level. The three-star is packed with potential, and with some coaching from Kapilovic and graduate assistant Jacob Lail, Charlton could maximize his abilities at the position.

Michigan State will get the the twins’ last June official visit this weekend. The pair will join a handful of four- and five-star prospects in East Lansing during a loaded recruiting weekend.
