What’s LSU getting in 2024 OT Ory Williams?
LSU offensive line coach Brad Davis has assembled a nice run of offensive linemen since arriving in Baton Rouge. The future of the position was once again solidified thanks to the commitment from 2024 San Marcos (Tex.) offensive lineman Ory Williams.
Davis has an impressive group on campus already and now a pair of impressive tackle prospects in Williams and four-star offensive lineman Ethan Calloway. With the talent on campus, both won’t be leaned on to play right away, allowing them to develop more.
On3 recently moved Williams up to the No. 37 overall offensive tackle in the country. His rise could continue with a strong senior season. On3 assistant director of scouting Cody Bellaire is high on the athletic traits and size Williams brings to the table.
“People use the term “dancing bear” pretty loosely these days, but Ory Williams is more than deserving of that title,” Bellaire said. “At 6-7, 300 pounds, Williams has immense size and athleticism. We can see that athletic ability on the football field thanks to the time he’s spent on the hardwood. He’s an excellent mover for his size on the basketball court as well as in the open field. He has tremendous balance and body control in the run and passing game and has looseness in his hips.”
What’s next for Ory Williams?
As far as his development, there’s still room for improvement. As a big lineman, he’ll have to continue to get lower and get into the weight room once he arrives at LSU.
Still, the traits are there for him to be a terrific long-term addition for Davis’ room.
“He’s an effective mover of people at this level due the size mismatch, but will need to learn how to obtain leverage more consistently at the next level in order to become a mauler in the run game,” Bellaire said. “Williams will need to add substantial strength in his uppers and lowers as well but that should come easily given his frame and resources at the next level. Overall, Williams has the body and athletic ability to develop into a premier tackle prospect at the collegiate level and beyond.
“For him, it’s all about his development in the weight room and honing his craft in terms of the technical aspects of the position. He has all the gifts you can’t teach.”
The Tigers beat out Florida, Texas, Texas A&M and numerous others for him. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Williams ranks as the No. 513 overall prospect in the nation, No. 31 offensive tackle in the country and No. 93 prospect in Texas.
