What to watch for on Day 2 at 2025 NFL Draft

Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft will officially arrive on Friday night in the shadow of Lambeau Field in Green Bay. We cannot say that the first night was boring. The Jacksonville Jaguars made a big move for Travis Hunter, the Atlanta Falcons made a crazy trade, and Maxwell Hairston found a great home with the Buffalo Bills. We also saw some first-round prospects slip into the second round.
What can we expect when the NFL Draft goes live at 7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT? We are touching on that now at KSR.
[Luckett’s Ultimate 2025 NFL Draft Guide]
1.) Deone Walker will enter draft range in the third round
Deone Walker quickly turned into a star defensive tackle at Kentucky who became one of the best players in college football as a sophomore in 2023. Expectations were extremely high for former four-star recruit out of Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech heading into his junior season. Unfortunately, Walker suffered a back injury and saw his production dip. Add in some poor pre-draft testing and we’ve seen the potential first-round pick fall in a deep defensive line draft.
But Walker could come off the board tonight.
Most analysts have a round four grade on the pass-rush first defensive tackle but the comp picks begin in the third round. Do not be surprised if someone attempts to take a swing on Walker with the additional Day 2 pick before Day 3 arrives.
2.) Shedeur Sanders should come off the board early
In the 2023 NFL Draft, we saw Will Levis fall on draft day and ultimately slip out of the first round. That led to the Kentucky quarterback not being picked until Day 2. Levis almost immediately came off the board when the Tennessee Titans selected him with the second pick of the second round.
Expecting something similar for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
The Cleveland Browns own picks No. 32 and No. 36 following the Day 1 trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars that led to Travis Hunter going to Duval County. Kevin Stefanski’s wide zone play-action offense feels like a great fit for Sanders. The Las Vegas Raiders (No. 37 overall) are another potential fit where Sanders could backup Geno Smith as a rookie.
If Cleveland decides to go in a different direction (Jalen Milroe or Tyler Shough), we could see Sanders slip down into the 40s or maybe even into the third round.
3.) An unexpected tackle run has made Day 2 board lighter
Will Campbell (New England Patriots), Armand Membou (New York Jets), and Kelvin Banks Jr. (New Orleans Saints) were all expected to be first-round picks. The top-three tackles in this draft all went off the board in the top 10. That early movement caused an earlier than expected run on Tier 2 offensive line prospects.
Tyler Booker (Dallas Cowboys), Grey Zabel (Seattle Seahawks), Donovan Jackson (Minnesota Vikings), Josh Conerly Jr. (Washington Commanders), and Josh Simmons (Kansas City Chiefs) were all seen as players who could slip into the second round. None of them are available now.
There are some clear second-round guards (Tate Ratledge and Jonah Savaiinaea) available but tackle got thin quick. We could see some offensive line reaches on Day 2 as soon as Ratledge and Savaiinaea are off the board.
4. A big run at EDGE is coming
The Atlanta Falcons surprisingly gave away next season’s first-round pick to scoop up Tennessee EDGE James Pearce Jr. in an unexpected move. That got us up to five EDGE prospects off the board. Expect a big run at this position to happen in the second round.
Donovan Ezeiruaku (Boston College), JT Tuimoloau (Ohio State), Landon Jackson (Arkansas), Jordan Burch (Oregon), Jack Sawyer (Ohio State), Nic Scourton (Texas A&M), and Princely Umanmielen (Ole Miss) should all come of the board in the second round. There will be some more high-quality EDGE prospects available in the third round.
This draft could be defined by the depth of the EDGE position. Multiple teams will find some good pass rushers today and some might even find a star or two.
